As in, reached the first page.

Bought the book !
The library didn’t have the book available, it’s out on loan, probably because of a spike in popularity with the recent news about 東野(?). My closest book store is a used book shop, I always buy there, so I went to go get the 文庫本 version. It was 700 yen (really expensive, brand new it’s only 900 yen or so), definitely more than last time I saw his books there. They definitely put the prices up because of I guess higher demand recently, feels a bit bad. Especially given he has like 100 million books sold (including more than 5 million copies of masquerade series books), you would think there’s enough supply to go around.
Anyway I’ll start reading tomorrow!

Happy reading! I’m almost done with chapter 1 but the first pages were hard. I don’t think they were especially difficult, but just that reading a new book is hard!
100%. I went to my local japanese bookshop in Paris to order his last book, which was released on Aug 10, and they told me they don’t expect to receive it until 6-8 weeks because of the upsurge in sales
(It’s available on Amazon, though. And while I’m really sad he passed away, his last book is a ガリレオ novel, and I’m glad for that)
I’m finishing chapter 3, and loved chapter 1. I usually mix natto with raw fish, I definitely have to try with meat (not sure if I can easily find horse meat, though) !
Haha yeah it was tough to read that beginning while being hungry!
What’s the bookshop you usually go to, so I can take notes for next time I’m in Paris? I only know Junku
Junku it is ! Though if you’re not looking for anything in particular, and are feeling lucky, there are second hand japanese books at Book Off Chatelet and Book Off Quatre Septembre, and a tiny selection at Gibert too.
Cool thanks! You live in a super nice neighborhood then, when I was there I was feeling so happy at seeing Japanese places everywhere and hearing Japanese people at every corner! The complete opposite of where I live, so it was quite a shock! (but a good one)
Didn’t make a lot of progress so far, only just reached chapter 3.
This week was super busy, and next week is even busier 
in spite of a horrible week and start of the weekend , I made good progress on Sunday and today !
So far, the book is starting much like the previous ones, and I’m keen on seeing how the relations with the hotel will go (and what crazy plot twist we are bound to see at the end)
梓 is clearly set up as the good-guy baddy here…
Nice! Seeing those posts full of spoiler tags is a good incentive for making me want to read faster, I want to know what’s written there 
hopefully next week will be less busy!
As always the beginning was hard for me, but when dialog starts rolling then magically my pace increases!
Part 1
I was half expecting that this book would be set in L.A. haha. But not complaining, I prefer a story set in Tokyo. We still haven’t heard of Naomi though, so let’s see.
I liked the start! Also very nice how on page 35 there was a summary of the names of the victims, their victims, and the family members. Spared us the scene where the last unknown names are introduced, and makes for a good cheat sheet in case someone doesn’t have a good memory / isn’t take notes 
(now I just wish we had the pronunciation of all names, but oh well, I’ll survive)

Favorite sentence of this week part:
単独犯か複数犯かは不明だが、もし犯人あるいは犯人たちが、この一連の犯行を正当な行為だとでも思っているのだとしたら、とんでもなく傲慢な勘違いであり、刑事司法システムに対する冒瀆だ。
The sentence jumped to my attention because of how long it was, and I think it’s a good warning on what’s to come for the book and captured well the essence of the problem with revenge killers (that are ironically killing people guilty of revenge p0rn, you never learn…)
Then I got confused by this sentence: 自由が丘でレストランを経管している
Cause I didn’t know that 自由が丘 was the name of a place, so the words and the grammar didn’t seem to make any sense 
Got really surprised in chapter 4 that they jumped to the conclusion that it’s a group of four people doing trade killings and that a murder is going to happen at the hotel (at least if I understood right). Why are they not considering the possibility of more than 3/4 people and a lot more killings to come? Then in chapter 5 they did mention that possibility, but still, they sound very sure that something is bound to happen at the hotel.
Also, when the book mentioned at the beginning that it was early December, I had a feeling that by the time Christmas would be around the corner, something would go down. Well at least that came fast!
But now expecting at least 200 pages of hotel stuff to come before the murder xD
The first spoiler tag was a bit funny here cause I think she’s the only character that has a name with only one kanji xD but yeah I see what you mean. Not used to seeing 能勢 being bossed around that much!

This is going to be one of those books where I need to write a list of characters names and pronunciations to be able to follow along like the last few in the series I think..

It feels like specifically in Tokyo there’s lots more places than normal with が in the place name, like 霞が関 where lots of the government offices are
Yeah it seemed like a lot of jumping to specific conclusions and a slightly contrived setup to be slightly honest, but if the action in the hotel is good I’ll forgive it

I should have more time this week, hope I can get a good momentum with the book, it’s been feeling sluggish so far! @Magyarapointe has already reached part 5 or 6 it seems

I appreciated Part 1 starting right in the middle of the investigations, but the set up for the joint investigation did feel a bit slow.
(Coming from a bunch of light novels, I may just need a moment to get used to 東野圭吾 style writing again. 
)
Interesting concept with the revenge murders (and yes, definitely some jumping to conclusions), leaves a lot of possibilities open. At first I thought they’d hired someone, since they went to the trouble of matching the knives. If they’re acting as a group, is that a red herring then?
And as always, 新田 can’t catch a break, even as his own division’s boss. Loved how they steamrolled him in part 5.
Welcome nice that you are joining! I’m not too part, in part 4. But I have a feeling that it won’t take too long to finish the book (it is much shorter than the previous one).
I did spot on Natively that you were reading a lot of light novels! I have only read 2 so far, I wonder if I would like to binge them too. Are you reading digitally or on physical books?
It is at that! You’re reading the hardcover? I have the bunko and it’s more than 100 pages less. Still long enough, haha.
On that note, I still have the sticker from bookoff on my volume, and I paid 650 yen (not including tax) last year. So it doesn’t seem to have gotten that much more expensive, at least.
Generally, a mix; but these I’m reading digitally via Kindle Unlimited. I’m putting in a bit of concentrated effort this year to clean up my library a bit and cancel KU! 
As for if you’d like to binge them, I guess that depends on the LN and how it’s written. 
Binging doesn’t come naturally to me (I get distracted by the shiniest) but I like 支倉凍砂’s writing style and I’m sloowly warming up to the new heroine in 狼と羊皮紙. But having a goal motivated me. Plus I’m mixing it up with some other stuff in between, like manga or bookclubs. ^^
