Have fun at the expo wether you go today or some other time.
Chapter 79 sign-up list is up. I won’t be at the read aloud, but I’ll do what I can to help with the vocab list (this is a good excuse to get out of family things )
Chapter 80 list is up! I forgot it was the end of the volume.
We learn important lessons about looking before we leap this chapter.

Sign up for Ch. 81 is out. Lots of talking and musing about strategy and development. And don’t miss that one signature line from everyone’s favourite owl.
We postponed reading ch.81 to next week as there would have been a lot of text with only a few people. Reading schedule got updated in first post.
Hi everyone! Big news. We’ve updated our meeting time for next week.
We’ll be reading Chapter 82 and the read aloud will be 2022-09-17T14:00:00Z
The following week, we’ll do the watch along for the episodes that correspond to the end of volume 9 and the beginning chapters of volume 10. Please come out and watch with us!
First post has updated time and reading schedule as well.
Chapter 82 sign-up list is live. Remember that we have a time change! Check the first post (or one post above this) for updated time.
Reminder that next meeting, 2022-09-24T14:00:00Z, is the watch-along for the previous volume. The anime didn’t line up so we waited until it fit better.
Added Sept 28:
久しぶり! We’re back with Chapter 83 this Saturday. Still keeping the revised time.
Not many speaking parts, so feel free to split (ex. “I’ll do Ukai until page X”)
We got some serious faces in this one…
A bit more on the tempo/timing frim an attacker’s perspective:
Summary
As coach Ukai said, the timing depends on when tve attacker starts running. It’s probably easier to see in the anime but the 3rd tempo basically is the toss for the WS while 2nd and 1st is for the MB. (Earlier start makes for an earlier positioning and thus requires a faster/shorter toss.)
For 3rd tempo you start running towards the attack when the ball from the toss is at it’s highest point of the arch. It will becoming down and be right over the net when the attacker is at his highest with his jump.
For 2nd tempo the attacker starts running as soon as the setter touches the ball. For the MB that would result in the “normal” attack, where the toss is about 1m away from the setter and 1m above the net at it’s highst point. The way attacker and ball meet is in the same way as for the WS in 3rd tempo.
There’s a variation for the WS where the ball is set a bit shorter, lower and faster which would also require him starting in 2nd tempo, i think.
1st tempo is the quick attack for the MB, no matter wether it’s in the front or back of the setter. When the setter touches the ball, the attacker has already startet his jump. Therefore the arch of the toss is still going up or at it’s highest point when the ball is hit by the MB.
There’s also a variation for the MB which would probably also require 1st tempo. It’s called a “shot” and the ball is set about 2m from the setter but not as high as for a “normal” attack and quite fast.
When i’m back home on monday, i’ll se if i can add some pictures for clarification.
The gang’s all here! Lots of speaking parts in Chapter 84. Sign-ups live now.
Ch 85 signup is here. We’re heading back to the vball camp!
p.89 left side of second panel from bottom, you can already see the cat and crow fighting.
chapter 86 sign-ups is live!
Everyone’s favorite uncles babysit everyone’s favorite sourpuss. Bokuto is here!
The original to the super tiny scripted dialogue of Tsukishima and Asahi at the top-right on p.124 is in Vol.6 on p.15 top-left.
As I won’t be there this saturday, you’ll get my commentary for this chapter in advance. ^^
Summary
I think on p.117 is the first time we’re seeing Tsukishima seeming carefree smiling. Somehow he seems way younger in this and it also feels a bit weird. ^^’
But even Tsukishima getting to train a little extra really hit home how lucky they are being able to play against all these amaizing teams. They really have to thank Takeda-sensei and his persistence big time as he got them into contact with Nekoma again. I think part of why Coach Nekomata agreed was because of that persistence (and I don’t mean that as in “asking until someone finally agrees” as in “nagging”), as that is somehow Nekoma’s own style: being persistent in their defense by picking up the ball again and again.
I can’t quite remember how it was portrayed in the anime but the last panel is really foreshadowing the parallels that Tsukishima sees between the Little Giant/his brother and Hinata/himself.
I also thought a bit more on the sun/moon analogy of Hinata and Tsukishima: I think it shows in their playing style as well. Hinata needs to shine on his own, like the sun, and draw everyone’s attention as a decoy. Seemingly overshadowing the other players so they can score with a “surprise attack”. While the moon is only reflecting the light, which somehow fits Tsukishima’s more passive and less showy style with the feint and the blocking as a defensive technique.
Chapter 87 sign ups is here! Stand up to bullies, kids
Chapter 88 sign-ups is live and y’all wanna get in on this one. Yamaguchi’s about to pop off for real.
He’s finally showing off his real strength.
