Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

This is an example of the “Blur Spoiler” option.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

Hello again!

そっくりクレヨン (Look-alike crayon)

Page 1

I can do it! Me too!

Page 2

Wow, how nice!

Suneo’s is good too.

Show us yours too, Nobita!

This, I don’t like.

It looks more like a cat, ahaha!

What, they’re making fun of me!

I did a bad job.

Page 3

A bad job? You did a good job drawing this cat.

Eh? I don’t like it.

You did a bad job.

AHH Doraemon’s being stupid!

You’re getting mad, I have a good thing for you.

Look-alike crayon!

When I draw with this, it’ll be a lookalike?

Nope!

Let me show you how to use it.

Page 4

Doraemon is bad at it too.

That’s not a lookalike?

Aa!

The drawn thing becomes a lookalike to the crayon drawing.

Woww…

Let’s draw bad one more time.

He’s redrawing it!

Ahaha, it looks like a cat again.

Page 5

I drew a cat.

Meoww…

I’ll draw your face.

Since you can’t draw accurately, that’ll be terrible.

Lookalike.

Don’t do it like that!

ココロコロン ( Heart cologne)

Page 1

Ah, poor thing.

Help that doll!

A-alright…

Hey you, let it go!

Thank goodness nothing happened to it!

It’s really old.

Whoever’s it is, it was really important to them.

Its owner must be really worried about it.

Page 2

And so, that’s why we’re asking you to help find the owner.

I can’t.

The doll is so pitiful!

Well, to change that…

“Heart cologne!”

We sprinkle this on, and we will understand the doll’s heart.

Please bring us to your house.

Wow, she smiled.

So, how will we know what house it is?

Page 3

We’ll walk in the direction of her eyes.

And, if the street is the wrong one…

Ah, she has a sad face.

So it’s this way.

She smiled!

Every time you come to a corner, just look at the doll.

The doll’s face is becoming happier bit by bit.

We must be getting close to the house.

This is it!

Page 4

Nooope, throw that out.

It’s gotten so old and dirty, we already have lots of new dolls.

What do we do with this doll?

I can take it.

Tear, tear…

Do you miss your old house?

What a problem.

It’s no use.

No…

Maybe that will help…

Page 5

You are seeing a dream.

It’s a dream of that time you received a doll from Papa.

“Memory cologne!”

The memory stored in the doll will emerge and float up.

And so, they were never alone after the child came.

They slept together every night.

Page 6

They were the best of friends.

Even if something bad happened, she soon forgot it while playing with Maa-chan.

Maa-chan…

Tear, tear…

Maa-chan!

Maa-chan I’m sorry! I’ll never throw you away again!

Not much to say this week!
Lookalike crayon - Extremely disturbing, no thanks!

Heart cologne - Disturbing in a different way (who else felt guilty after watching Toy Story lol)

It’s 調子に乗る (to be carried away)+~てはダメ (“do not” or “you must not”)、where the latter is abbreviated to ~ちゃダメ, which is common in speech.

Oh no, the return of the horrifying inventions.

One small question:
Pg. 100, panel 8, what is the き used here? V + 気を出す = try to do something? Or maybe, 探しき = name of device that lets you search?

Pg. 100, panel 8

Yep, most likely it is 機 as in “machine”. Probably also a reference to this device 人探し機 | ドラニュー

New grammar point I enjoyed Japanese でしょう Form for Guessing

ココロコロン

Page 99 panel 7
もちぬしはきっとしんぱいしてるでしょうね

I think comes out to “her owner is surely worried”, but there’s an added implication that this is a speculation.

I’m late but I finally did week 9’s chapters! I liked them, though the first chapter’s invention is quite disturbing! :joy: I’ve been really busy and starting tomorrow I will be even busier, so hopefully I finish reading this great comic with everyone, but if I don’t, I will do it when I can.

You made it this far! You’ve got this :star_struck:

Hello, everyone !

We’re almost there, I’m so hyped up!

そっくりクレヨン

This was so funny and easy to understand, although that seems like a troublesome invention :joy:

ココロコロン

This one was so sad :sob:
I don’t think I’d use the heart cologne, but the memory cologne might be quite useful? Do you guys also have a bad memory like me? It’s kinda sad not remembering good things clearly

You’re right the memory cologne would be so useful.

See you in week 10 :star:
