スキップ・ビート!Semi-casual book club (Now reading Volume 7)

Thank you for the warm welcome
I started to read this manga on my own just before starting to re-learn grammar around 10 months ago and discovering Wani Kani in April. I was around N4-N3 grammar level and knew around 100-200 kanji 5 years ago and stopped learning. But in this case, I am glad that I stopped reading it to improve a bit. It was like a torture slow pace before doing the reviews.
I am now after two reading sessions going together with the vocab you guys prepared. It goes a lot faster this way (still it’s not very fast ). The slow pace doesn’t discourage me this time as I like the story in this manga a lot. It’s a truly great motivator to learn. I am also adding some input there on my way in case someone needs it in the future. I am starting to believe that I will be able to read it one day

I decided to pick up reading the manga at Volume 10 (since the Anime left off about volume 10/11), and I just finished volume 11.

It’s definitely feeling much easier than the last time I tried to read it in Japanese.

I’m keeping my own vocab list in the Takoboto app on my phone, so I should be able to contribute to lists once the group gets to Volume 10.

Hi! Welcome to the club

Such a rewarding feeling

It would be nice if you contribute! I’ve created the sheets for 10-12 chapters and the respective thread, so you can use them right away. Please let me know if you need more. And, as always, please feel free to share any thoughts on the chapters or ask any questions… Maybe someone will be able to help, at least in the future

Awesome! Just exported my word lists to an Excel spreadsheet so should get to adding some of that today.

One quick question on: “Try not to add the same word more than once in a given week’s reading.”
How long is “a given week’s reading”? Is that one chapter / act?

And one more question:
What have you been doing for the words where the kanji and the romaji don’t match (i.e. 監督=かんとく, but romaji shows アイツ or ひと — probably not the best example as that one’s obvious, but you get what I mean)?

Thank you

Generally yes, per chapter. But don’t worry too much about it, it is not that important  I copy-pasted the guide from other book club, but I personally don’t mind breaking rules if it helps. And I or others can fix if something is off when we catch up.

Here is an example from 6th chapter:

Vocab (Kanji) Vocab (Kana) English Translation
迷宮 ラビリンス (instead of めいきゅう) labyrinth

Hi all, how is it going?

I finished reading the 7th volume and ready to proceed with 1 chapter a week pace

I’m reading volume 19. This manga has really grabbed me, and I don’t know that I would have tried it without this book club, so thank you!

Oh, that’s a lot! Glad to hear it

Kyoko vs Kuu fight in 18 was sooo hilarious, can’t wait to read it in Japanese

So I had somewhat a lull between my clubs and I saw that Skip beat have an abandoned club (and I have a weakness for them), so against better judgment here I am (51 volumes and still counting?! I think even if I return to this series in some 10 years it would still be ongoing :see_no_evil:).

Well, I aim at about 11 volumes, as my friend is watching Taiwanese screen version alongside (I’m not sure how many volumes it includes, I haven’t seen it, we’re gonna compare notes!). And I’m rewatching anime without subtitles - frankly it isn’t going well, my vocab is severely lacking.

First two chapters include author’s notes about the title. I vaguely skipped (ha! skipped!) through them. It actually took me some time to realise that Dq6MiPdPJE is ボ (in ボツ - rejection). Anyway as I understood she had little time and even less patience, and liked how these words sounded. No secret interior it seems, but still nice to see where it came from.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the club, I had some questions that were answered in the thread and the vocab list is really helpful, especially when it includes handwritten words!

Hey! Nice to see a fellow Skip Beat fan!

This book club is indeed abandoned, but I still love the story, I’m here on the forum, and I would be happy to discuss any volume! In fact, I started rereading it from scratch (now I’m on the volume 5, though I got a bit distracted by another book).

Anyways, I want to say that I’ll be happy to discuss any volume, and try answering questions etc. So please don’t hesitate to post if you feel like it!

Really glad to hear that!
