Alright, perfect timing! I just finished last week’s reading. Being stuck waiting for my car to get fixed isn’t so bad.
Week 6 posted!
I have to admit that I rushed ahead and finished the book this week. ^^" I stopped at the end of every section and read the comments from the previous book club. But I’m still gonna read the discussions. (Though I’m a 100% lurker.)
This is my first finished book in Japanese in about 2 years (last - and first - one being 時をかける少女), so I am really glad I’ve stumbled upon this book club and finally read something. It gave me a lot of confidence, so thank you! I already started another one (キッチン) and I plan to read around half of the intermediate book club’s previous choices.
Now I should also cancel my vacation mode on WK and get back to studying kanji…
The nice thing about organizing the club is that if I’m slow to finish the reading I can delay the next week’s post for a few hours. Here’s Week 7!
Alright, caught back up! Not that I’m done with Week 7, but at least I’ve gotten a few pages down.
The same condition that hath giveth me the ability to keep up while reading in the bathroom tooketh away last week. I was nearly bedridden from last Wednesday all the way through Monday.
Being a little behind hasn’t been all bad, though. At least someone’s usually finished off the vocab sheet for the week by the time I finish.
Not gonna lie, sometimes I do コンビニ reading last during the week for that very reason. Thank you @Tonina !
I try to contribute a bit when I can
Ha, I feel you guys. I try to contribute as well, but then because I’m reading on ereader, I can’t enter page numbers, which makes me feel bad.
Don’t feel bad about the numbers. Any help is appreciated. It’s easier to fill the numbers than filling the whole thing. Thanks for helping!
Thank you for helping!
I am really, really enjoying this book. For me, it was very hard at first, but little by little it’s getting more affordable. I’ve put quite some work on the vocab sheet, but it’s a kind of work I enjoy. I prefer to spend time this way rather than doing SRS on vocabulary outside of Wanikani.
I am also enjoying the comments on the book, both the new and the old ones. I think you guys are so clever with your interpretations. I am so glad to be able to participate in the book clubs.
Week 8 is up!
I’m spending the day moving so the Week 9 post might be a bit late today. I also might not make the live reading for the same reason. Hopefully all goes smoothly and it’s a non-issue!
Week 9 is finally up! Thanks for waiting.
Week 10 is up!
Week 11 has been up for a while but I realize I forgot to post here.
This link in the OP is broken. @jhol613 Could you replace it with this one?
Fixed. Good catch!
Soooooo… we’re nearly at the end of this book and I have been really enjoying it. So much so that I am thinking about reading another book by Sayaka Murata. Earthlings has been mentioned before. It’s 50% longer, but we’re used to her style by now, so maybe that isn’t too bad. But another book could also work!
Is anyone else interested? We could start another book club
- Yes please!
- No thanks.
I still want to read all her books anyway, so if I can read another one with others, count me in.
Already read: 殺人出産, 丸の内魔法少女ミラクリーナ (soon - 85%), Earthlings (in translation, but I don’t want to repeat it so quickly)
If you pick anything else, I’ll participate.
変半身（かわりみ）is the shortest, but it’s also still pricey
