I’m reading along
I had already finished this part before the thread was posted
The chapter with the AI that threw a giant thesaurus at us desensitized me to the point where everything after that felt like a walk in the park.
This week
RIP Tomine!
As I said last week, I didn’t really have much hope for his long-term survival, but idk, I was still disappointed to be right. And he took out the whole museum, too. Somehow that felt like the bleakest thing that happened so far, because it illustrated that not only doesn’t the world have a future, there’s not even a point in remembering the past anymore.
We also got confirmation that Saya was grown in an artificial womb, but not much info on the company that manufactured her yet.
Btw, is there going to be an offshot? I already got volume 2, so I’d be in.
I’ll do a poll in the home thread on friday/saturday, and if there’s enough interest, I’ll do an offshoot (I just need to look into the proper way of running that )
What do you mean he took out the museum? I thought he just incinerated the bodies (similar how she was doing it in previous chapters) including himself.
On second thought, I think you’re right. I thought he caused an explosion because the pillar of smoke we see in the last panel looked pretty large to me, but I guess it was just a cremation chamber after all. So, that lowers the depression score by one point.
I just finished the chapter. It felt like a fitting end. No great surprises, but still some progress for our main character. I’m curiously for volume 2, which I had already bought along with volume 1.
I was mostly surprised just how well the blurb captures the story, looking back: “A story of loneliness and beautiful ruins.”
Finished! Added some stuff to the vocab sheet for this section as I read too.
Summary
You called it.
I thought the ending was fitting, and him showing her around the museum was really sweet. I’m interested to see where her travels and exploration take her next. I’d also like to know more about the facility that created her (is she really the only one?).
Thanks for the book club pick, Gorbit! I enjoyed this one a lot.
