Finally a living human being! Because of the overall bleak tone of the story so far, I was pleasantly surprised that he survived all the way through this chapter…but I got doubts about his long-term survival chances. I’m rooting for him, though. He seems like a decent guy, and it would be nice to have some more recurrent characters.
So - she’s finally found a living human! But I have a horrible feeling he isn’t going to survive the volume. At this point my best guess is that either there’s a breach in his PPE, or he voluntarily takes his mask off after reaching his former colleagues.
His age is also an interesting clue. While it’s not exact, I’d guess he’s maybe 30 at the time of the pandemic, and now maybe 70? Which means at least 40 years have passed.
Which means that if she’s human, which I’m not certain she entirely is, she was born after it occurred. Or created? Maybe engineered to be immune to the crystal disease? Which also raises further questions of who her masters are.
I also noted that クー様 gave her a slightly cross look when she was pausing to look around. So is he her boss??
Earlier in the volume, Claudia (the android girl) mentioned, that she tried to fetch a doctor 18722 days ago (~52 years), so that kinda gives an idea about the timeline here, at least if you assume that the whole of Earth was hit at the same time.
In previous chapters she referred to herself as an 永遠の子. That sounds…like very sturdy product design somehow. And we’ve also already seen that her wounds heal very fast. So I guess she’s designed to be immune to more than just the crystal disease and also has a very long natural lifespan? I’d love to know more about the institution that created her.
I also wondered about that, but your guess is as good as mine. At least we now got confirmation that this takes place on Earth and not just somewhere that looks like Earth.
She found someone! I guess I missed all the earlier stuff saying that 50 years had passed, because I was kind of surprised to see this guy alive and having lived through the calamity. One person’s lifespan (barely, since he was an adult when it happened) seems like a shorter amount of time than it should be, given the emptiness of the world and absolutely no one being left. Also, if Saya was engineered by humans, 50 years seems pretty quick for them figuring out how to make an 永遠の子。
