Page 77, we’ve covered ロッキンジャポン before in this series, but フシロック refers to the Fuji Rock Festival. Which, haha, I already linked in the 気になってる人が男じゃなかった volume 3 thread. (Quite by coincidence, I’m gonna be visiting the place where this is held during my next trip to Japan, in the hopes of getting some nice autumn leaves.)
In the seventh panel of that same page, before anyone just takes ネットワークビジネス at face value and moves on, it’s actually what they call multi-level marketing in Japanese.

I really liked that first chapter, even if it wasn’t plot heavy stuff just happens, then the ending had me wondering what the second chapter was gonna be like

Page 81, that’s the Village Vanguard in the background of the second panel. Not… not really important in clarifying a joke, but there you have it. And there it is again on 91.
I’m glad they finally adressed the stethoscope on page 83, but they’re not even gonna mention the mismatched shoes?
Page 93, sixth panel, Kita’s mother’s name is read くるよ, so it’s pun on the same line as Kita herself.
Page 98, 王族のブランチ is a reference to 王様のブランチ

i really need to watch densha otoko one day. (I think it was the ED for that jdrama). I also heard it in Ouendan 2.
The only jdramas I’ve ever watched are densha otoko and the live action kyou kara ore wa because they immediately drew me in, highly recommend both of those
This is completely off topic but my dictionary said 引き延ばす can be used not just for stretching time but photos as well by enlarging them, and here we call that blowing up photos. For a while I was wondering how common it was to say that, in case I went to another country or something and asked somebody to blow up a map on a phone and have them respond with “what the heck are you talking about?”. Looked it up and heard mixed things from it’s a normal casual thing to say, to it’s a weird outdated thing from darkrooms

Page 102, Kessoku Band’s opening act “yobai” appear to take their name from the word 夜這い, which means “creeping at night into a woman’s bedroom; stealing into a girl’s bedroom at night to make love”. The relevance of that to the chapter, though, I haven’t the foggiest idea.
For page 111 and subsequent, the dialogue has already made it clear, but this chapter takes place at Enoshima. We’ve been here before, back in their first summer together. Page 114, second panel, ビラボード and グラマー reference the Billboard and Grammy music awards, while ビヨンボ is presumably Beyoncé.
Sixth panel, they’re watching the sunrise from Katase Higashihama, and in the final panel, oshikuramanjuu is a pushing game which looks like this:

How do we feel about taking an extended break before we start the next volume. Like, say, … until the start of December? It’s just that I’m heading off to visit Japan in three weeks (hooray!) and likely I won’t have time to read the chapters or write these posts while I’m away.
(Downside, by that point, volume eight will have been released, so we’ll still be a volume behind. Unfortunately, it’s coming out three days too late for me to pick up a copy while I’m there.)

Oh I didn’t realize we got 2 more volumes! I thought volume 7 was going to release on the 28th but it’s already out, was accidentally looking at the date for the english release
So what’s left is volume 7, and 8 which releases Nov 27
It may be a while until december but that’s completely fine by me! Having 2 volumes left after a long break is better than 1 so I don’t mind at all
I really like this word I just found out about, 聖地巡礼, not just because it’s visiting a spot that’s been used in anime, manga, etc. but also because it’s referred to as like a sacred pilgrimage. Circling back to Densha Otoko, if I ever went to akihabara, the immediate highest priority for me would be to look for the spots they shot it, and everything else would be extra
I was gonna talk about oshikuramanjuu but instead it’ll be Bocchi and Ryo getting drunk, a twist I was not expecting, both this and last chapter’s moments where Ryo runs away from Kita’s mom when Nijika calls her out and also Kikuri making them look bad were all great

bocchi da break
Finally got around to finishing. it feels pretty good to finish even from a not-looking-things-up perspective since I feel like I can follow 50-60% even just casually, and still get a fair amount of the jokes. It’s still really tiring to read (especially the white on black text which is tiny and formatted awfully for comprehension when you don’t know the kanji already), but I feel like I’m getting there slowly.
I never really expected to finish reading the physicals i collected all those months ago, but here we are, going to get even more physicals at some point.
