My impression was not that they’re that bad but more than the rumour mill (and their own weird quirks) was making the expectations Bigger Than Jesus ™ and the actual performance was therefore a letdown.
I swear the inner bocchi face in the second last panel is a reference to something but I can’t place it. Thought it might be king crimson but that’s not right. Blue meanies?
I know hot pot is supposed to be a fun activity to do together, and it would make sense for everybody to contribute something, it would even be taking the word potluck to a whole other literal level. 闇鍋 sounds like it’s essentially just that but with everybody having no idea what’s gonna happen. The name makes me imagine it as like some sort of horrendous mad science food crime, but it’s called that because apparently you’re supposed to eat it in the dark, now I wanna try it and hope for the best, sounds like fun
ニコイチ huh. Now I have a word for when I collect broken microwaves so I can repurpose their parts. For what exactly? Too bad I haven’t thought that far ahead yet and don’t wanna become microwave food
Also the like and retweet in Bocchi’s eyes when she thinks about my new gear is so good lol
Also with the double bass pedal I can confirm the high hat is a third pedal you gotta switch your left foot to if you want to close it
Chapter forty-three’s title image is from “Kara No Waremono” by hitorie
Chapter forty-four’s isn’t a reference to anything in particular.
Page 48, Takeda Shingen was the daimyo of Kai Province (modern-day Yamanashi Prefecture), known as the “Tiger of Kai”. The joke I suspect they’re trying to make is that he’s often depicted holding a gunbai, a Japanese war fan, signalling device, and symbol of leadership… and superficially similar in shape to the body of an electric guitar.
comic 2 on this page is so confusing. two characters that kind of look like grown up bocchi and nijika doing a gag routine about takeda shingen’s war fan and… some kind of comedy line…? Completely lost.
I think the main joke is that it’s the same gag which Bocchi did at the end of the first of last week’s chapters, which completely bombed, and was planning to do again, despite the fact that it completely bombed the last time she did it.
(But yeah, I’m pretty sure I’ve commented before that Kemonoria look exactly like Kessoku Band but with different hairstyles.)
p58 lmao Kita makes an SEO joke about the band name
/edit done, great chapter. Guessing it’ll be the season finale or so. Should be amazing animated. Can’t wait to see what songs they come up with for all the bands - i’m sure SIDEROS and Kemonoria will have at least one, maybe even get a SICK HACK opening act, and then of course new music for the finale…
I really enjoyed the two chapters this week, I can’t wait to see what happens next! Was just having a good time and didn’t come across anything in particular to talk about for this one. I liked the gag that happens right off the bat when Futari and Bocchi showed up at the venue, the interactions with their family are always great
That looked weird to me at first because I only knew 云 to be a simplified form of 專 (e.g. 轉 → 転) not of whatever is below the 艹 here but it turns out that 藝 is actually 蓺 + 云, with 蓺 itself also meaning “art, talent, ability, craft” and also being pronounced ゲイ. So I guess it’s almost like a variant and not a separate character? But I don’t see it listed that way in the wikitionary.
Oh and 蓺 is 艹 + 埶 and 埶 means… “art”, and is also pronounced ゲイ. So basically 藝 starts with the kanji 埶 meaning “art” prounced ゲイ and adds two layers of additional components to end up with a kanji that means “art” and is pronounced ゲイ. But then it got simplified and they removed the central component that gives the kanji its reading and meaning directly.
Also while 藝 is simplified into 芸 in Japanese, it’s 艺 in simplified Chinese.
