It’s actually just “to be in distress”, which can be basically anything that’s life threatening, but I personally chose the “being shipwrecked; stranded” meaning from the dictionary. Even the wiki page goes into like, people lost on mountains and such
Had quite a lot of trouble figuring out:
Vocab on page 27/28
付きまとわれてる/つきまとってる
In case anyone else is struggling with it, these are both contractions:
付きまとわれてる → 付きまとわれている → “to be being followed” (passive form + teiru)
つきまとってる → つきまとっている → “to be following” (active form + teiru)
Base verb: 付きまとう or “to follow.”
I was able to look them up on Tanoshii Japanese.
Wow yeah things definitely picked up this week, but huge thanks to all the discussion here so far - Has made digesting it much easier!
A couple more pages of translations !
page 22
Morning.
Yes, that’s impossible. I got carried away. I can’t ask about worries or something like that suddenly.
I get ambitious at night…
Oh, Bocchi, morning ! What’s up ?
MY NIGHT SELF IS TERRIBLE
What ? What’s that sudden thing?
Well, she’s overthinking something again… I guess it can’t be helped…
Hey Bocchi, wanna go exploring / visiting / discovering the school a bit ?
Exploring ? (but, we must share our worries….)
You really joined the school and did not go exploring ?
Exploring the school…
(With Nako chan !) I want to go !
page 23
I thought Nakochan was a person that didn’t want to move around too much.
That’s a bit harsh / too much…
Well, it’s true but, since this is about exploring the school, it’s a special occasion.
By the way, Bocchi, what do you have in your hand ?
If we go exploring, I take my flute.
Why ?
As you wish ! Upstair ? Downstairs ?
???
Bochi, I’m leaving you behind !
page 24
This is the school store.
It’s not open yet.
Besides, it appears it sells bread for lunch.
Next time, let’s try buying bread !
Yeah !
Also, when will you use that flute ?
This is for cases of disaster and emergencies…
It’s the suspect bathroom.
The suspect bathroom…
It’s suspect, isn’t it ?
When it’s weird like that, it feels like there’s something [alive], doesn’t it Bocchi ?
There’s something [alive] !
p22
Quite the opposite, she’s saying that her night self is awesome, and proactive and whatever.
But I believe if you wanted to keep the “joke”, a good translation would be
“I’m amazing at night”
More like “What’s this all of a sudden!?”
p24
横 doesn’t have this “besides” meaning. At most it means “beside” in the physical sense.
… and the end ! Phew !
page 25
I’ll take a look !
(Is she playing the flute now ?)
There was nothing.
Isn’t is scary ?
I’m not often talked to, so I think it’d be nice to become friend
How sad.
A Mirror, we look at our aspect but…
Bocchi skirt is long, it’s not cool
You say it’s not cool ?
It’s not cool.
Ah, the school exploration is over !
(sounds of flute again ?)
What is she imitating this time ?
page 26
This is one of those letter that we pass around when we want to talk during class !I’ve been longing for one !
I’ll make this my treasure (is she saying it because she hides it in her textbook ?)
READ THIS
Next, I’ll show you the rooftop ! - Alpaga
(answer, answer)
(Despite its fluffy hair, Alpaga is a member of the camel family !)
page 27
How did you hurt your forehead ?
my forehead… (Discussing you worries)
[I was injured by] a book to become better friend with Naoko
I see… Sharing your worries / trouble.
So… so my worry is…
May I ask Naoko what her worries are ? (said in a very stiff manner)
Right… I’m happy we can settle this.
Well, my worry is…
What, what is your worry ?
It’s that since exploring the school, I’ve been followed by something strange…
page 28
It suddenly says it wants to become friends…
I don’t know what it wants but… It has that weird energy… (two たり in that sentence are hard to translate but give the sentence a more evasive feeling)
But, I’m unexpectedly having fun.
COULD I BECOME FRIEND WITH THIS PERSON TOO ?
What ?
I don’t think you can become [friends]… (Is this 成れない ? It seemed to make sense…)
Again… ! Perhaps it means it’s following Nakochan…
Will… Will you be my friend ?
p25
Well, playing is a strong word, certainly trying to
姿見鏡 is “full length mirror”
p26
Specifically “READ IT”, instead of putting it away into what seems like one of those see through thingies
Alpaka, as in the animal
Camelidae!
p27
入学 is “enrolling into the school”, so this is specifically “Since I started this school…”
p28
Said, this is past tense, just not obvious because of the 〜たり〜たり
Well, she’s specifically listing out what the “strange thing” (Bocchi) was doing, “Stuff like…”
Various pages
Ahah, I’d didn’t realize Bocchi was so happy to receive a message she was about not to read it. (^.^)
Thanks for the clarifications !
