I just received my book from amazon.co.jp - wow, how quick was that?? Ordered it just Tuesday and it came all the way to Germany (together with my Genki books ).
This book looks just great and I really look forward to reading it together with you!

This will be my first book club! I’m having a few annoying issues with Amazon.co.jp. I live in Osaka right now and I’ve ordered on Amazon before, however, my book was supposed to arrive last week but JP Post wasn’t sure if I really live here (with my strange katakana name) and just sent it back!
I now sorted things out with JP Post with the help of a Japanese colleague and ordered again.
What a bummer, I shot a really nice deal, but Amazon only refunds the price of the book and not the shipping (and the book was literally 5 Yen).
Anyways, wish me luck that it actually arrives this time! In the worst case I’m gonna go to a book store and buy the pricier one…
Ah that sounds frustrating! Hope you get it from the post soon.
I live in Mexico. In order to buy the kindle on Amazon jp I first had to call the bank in order to have them unblock my credit card for Amazon jp. Then the purchase proceeded as planned; however, I had problems downloading the kindle on the Amazon app; I eventually managed to do so by installing the TunnelBear app and deregistering my device on Amazon Kindle and then registering it again. It was kind of a pain, but I think now I got it.
Picked up the new edition at Kinokuniya in NYC. Looking forward to the journey!
Yeah the de-registering and re-registering is annoying…(on my physical Kindle, the “special offer” ads came back). I ended up buying a cheap secondhand Kindle just for my Japanese books.
I buy the books on my computer over VPN but the Kindle doesn’t seem to need to the VPN to sync
I‘ll also join in! It‘s gonna be my very first japanese book I‘ll be reading so looking forward to the challenge. Thank you lots for setting up this book club! Otherwise I wouldn‘t even know which books are suitable for my current low level of Japanese. Can‘t wait to start!
I have just purchased my edition from Amazon Japan, expected delivery 22-24th January for UK address!
Looking forward to my 1st ever foreign language book club! I avoided going to a Japanese language exchange today… so i hope this gesture makes up for it!! Just need to work on some conversational skills first thats all…
I’ve been on a hiatus after a burnout (I have chronic fatigue, so it happens at times ), and slowly started to do WaniKani again in December, and picked up a few of my old book clubs (mainly Chi’s Sweet home, but planing on catching up on some other as well, especially Yotsuba since they have had breaks too so I’m only one volume behind <3 )
Might go back to some of the others as well, but I prefer to read along with a schedule. So perfect timing for this book! I went and bought it, will arrive February 2nd-7th! Sometimes they come even sooner too, so I’ll have it just in time; a few days late if not
Welcome back Toyger!
Just ordered a copy on Amazon Japan!
I’m really excited to join this bookclub
I’m curious - is there a reason you’ve chosen the books for 2nd years and entirely skipped those for 1st years?
I might try to join in, I’m gonna try amazon Japan + kindle Edit: sigh kindle with multiple countries is weird, I’ll likely have to just use the web reader (hope that’s still a thing)
Wow! 6 years! Glad to have you back! =D
Yes, the 1st grade books have hardly any kanji, making it harder to read! (wall of Kana =P )
We have found 2nd grade to be somewhat the easier language, yet use enough kanji to make it easier to find what the words are
Thanks, that makes sense, I thought it might be something like that.
Thanks! Unfortunately (for my Japanese, not in general) I moved to a country where I did not speak the language, so that kind of took priority for a while. I’m starting to get back into Japanese though! It’s unclear if I’ll get back into wanikani yet, but I really like the community here so I want to be active in the forums at least… though I always tend to be a lurker so we’ll see /end of off-topic backstory
Ah yes, sounds very reasonable =)
Luckily the forum is free! <3
We’ll be glad to have you with us =^_^=
And nah, never seen a topic that didn’t go of topic
Never be afraid to say whatever wherever! =D
I downloaded the free sample on amazon japan and will purchase the full book if I see that I’m keeping up with the club
For others who have the kindle version, does it show up as text or images for you? The sample begins as images of the full pages but at some point switches to text, which is kind of weird Edit: pretty sure the sample is skipping pages and it’s confusing so I’ll just go and buy the entire thing now
Also, it might be a bit of extra work, but to help out people with ebooks, can we get a table of first & last words of each page so we know what to look for? Maybe in the OP of the weekly/per-chapter threads?
There’s usually the last sentence for the ebook users posted in the OP of each week’s thread.
This was already done in earlier posts, see
and few more posts after.
I think it will be repeated in each week thread as well.
ordered on CDJapan… looking forward to this!
