I won’t be at the live reading this weekend, but
the emoji programme above!
Even though I have naze on hold for the moment, I think I might join the reading session. Probably not reading myself, just listening to see how things go as I’ve never joined one of these before.
How long do you usually sit together and read?
About half an hour to 45 mins, I think? Sometimes we’ll pause to talk about rules for pronunciation and pitch accent and such.
I’d like to read the first page of Thunders, p155.
I’d like to read Clouds chapter, pp.152-154.
I volunteer for Acid rain, pp 159-162.
Live reading in just over an hour 2020-06-28T13:00:00Z
I’ll try to jump in somewhere - I’m on a work day so I’ll see how I go.
Edit - I’ve had a brief look at volcano page.
Next week’s live reading session is: 2020-07-05T13:00:00Z
We’ll be reading pages 53-73. It includes the following chapters:
Dogs (3 pages)
Sloths (5 pages)
Dinosaurs (5 pages)
Penguins (4 pages)
Chameleon (3 pages of text + 1 picture page)
As ever feel free to nominate a section you’d like to read in advance. If there’s lots of people there we’ll split the chapters up so everyone gets a chance to read who wants to. If you just want to listen in without reading you are very welcome too.

Well, I’m requesting “Dogs” pp.53-55, willing to share with someone.
I’d like to try Sloths, pp 56-60.
Ah! Sorry, didn’t noticed you had called it out, I thought I had checked before we started the call.
That’s fine…I’d only looked at half a page! And I got to do two bits of reading.
I think I’m very lucky I’ve managed to do 2 whole sessions while being on call, so I feel like I’m winning here!
Yeah haha you’re on a pretty great streak, whenever I try to sneak something non-work related into my day something always comes up. Early in the quarantine I signed up for some Zoom class to watch in the mornings and without fail someone at work would schedule a meeting during them.
I would like to try this part next Sunday then!
Hey, nearly 18 months since you joined us on the first なぜ book, looking forward to hearing @frayderike reading next week!
pressure intensifies ![]()
… but honestly: It’s not the reading out loud, it’s just the speaking (in English) itself that I’m nervous about. But as soon as I said a few words, I’m sure I will be fine. ![]()
Don’t worry at all! Lots of people don’t have English as a first language (I think fewer last week). And I just failed a review on WK because I couldn’t think of the English word. I am English…
What’s your native language?
It’s German.
If its remotely helpful, we could log in a bit early and say hi in my very bad German! I lived there many years ago and like to practice a little when I can.
Oh and I’m pretty sure there’s a couple of other actual German speakers in the group.
