No, not for me. For me it is tomorrow Xd t‘s still the 12.03 in germany ^^
We may move the starting date, if it’s that inconvenient for the next chapter maybe?
I’m saying it’s today, regardless of what your calendar says. I linked to the actual discussion thread.
Nah, this is fine. All the book clubs were starting to pile up on the weekends.
Alright, my volumes 3-5 arrived yesterday but I’m planning on reading the reading for this week tomorrow (the 14th) instead of today because I have the day off tomorrow.
Yes, please let us keep this day, no one else is using it right now, too many in the weekend
Hi.
I am new here. (Just started yesterday.) And today I saw this bookclub and thought I might join in. Unfortunately my book only gets delivered in 2-3 weeks. So I hope to catch up with you then.
Super excited - I never read anything Japanese before (besides in my textbook; A guide to Vienna, is the book I got a few years back that I started to translate for myself but I put it down since it still is too difficult with all the different kanji I can’t read yet and not even loads of furigana.)
After letting my Japanese hibernate for a few years I try to get back into it, and hopefully this bookclub and this app (wanikani) helps with the main problems I had. (Taking too long to learn all the vocabulary - since I wasn’t able to break them down. And staying motivated since I didn’t had enough exposure elsewhere in my life.)

Hi–can someone help me understand what’s going on? I’ve never read manga or even comics so maybe it’s something specific to the medium. There is a place in each chapter where there’s four blocks in the middle of the conversation.
The panda seems to be imagining the Polar bear doing different things and he’s saying: “That’s —, That’s—” I don’t get what’s happening and why he is doing this. It doesn’t seem to flow from the rest of the story.
Also, I am struggling to read it so I am going by the English Translation unofficial page someone posted to try to get familiar before I try to push through it this weekend for the two chapters.
Any help is much appreciated.
It’s a humorous misunderstanding, so each word is pronounced close to, but not quite the same as the original word.
Something like
“Can I have a coffee?”
[dresses up as a toffee] That’s a toffee!
[dresses up as a banoffee pie] That’s a banofee!
[dresses up as hickory] That’s hickoree!
It is a pun. Panda uses the word 無糖派, but Shirokuma doesn’t understand it quite right so it starts making attempts at the possible meaning Panda intended. Shirokuma’s guesses get weirder and weirder. I’ve only read Chapters 1 and 2 and both of them have similar sequence. I’m guessing this is part of the style of this manga. This is also the first time I read manga. Hope this helps.
Thanks! @morpheme @diegocas33 . That helps a lot.
Aye, the scanslators elected to directly translate the meaning of the words, and completely lost the point that it’s indended to be a hurricane of puns. I’ll grant it can help you a bit with understanding the meaning, but you lose a bit of the humour…
So that ebi reader is the one that will be used in future right? Coz I went to Japanese playstore and no other form of ereader from yahoo Japan seems to be showing up. Apart from the ebi reader(but that’s already in English play store)
I’m so excited for this! I’ve always wanted to join in one of these book clubs but I always arrive too late. I’ve had all 5 volumes of the (old) manga for a while and I’ve been too intimidated to read them. IT’S TIME!
The reader from yahoo is called ebookjapan reader - it’s this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.yahoo.android.ebookjapan
I’m new to WaniKani (just started level 4), this is the first time in my life to read manga, and the first time to join a book club. Hoping to learn a lot from everyone. よろしくおねがいします。
Hello all,
Just got my book and i’m excited to join in.
This has been a nice ego check, it took forever to get through the first chapter lol.
Just started wanikani still in level 3.
I couldn’t work out the ebook book store listed above but it is also available here. The first 50 pages are available for a free trial:
Hi folks!
I’m quite late as I have just joined the forums yesterday, but I really like the concept of this club, and the proposed manga as well.
I have just grabbed the ebook on ebookjapan. However, I was wondering if it was possible to read it offline using a Windows app, and not an internet browser. I downloaded the ebiReader software, but it does not seem to work when I log in using my newly created Yahoo japan email adress.
I saw on other threads that ebookjapan website recently changed, so it might be the cause. According to a post above there is an Android app, but is there any other Windows app now?
Anyway, I will try to catch up with you!
Cheers
Hello and welcome to the forums!
Unfortunately ebiReader is for the old ebookjapan site and it won’t work with the new one.
There are both android/iOS apps but as of now limited to the japanese app stores and there is also a new windows app available for download. Here is the link
Thanks a million for the link! It worked like a charm!
Well, I guess I’m ready to join you know!
