しまなみ誰そ彼: LGBT+GSRM Book Club

I did an image search of 床板 and apparently it is also used for like beds, like the wood that suspends it above the ground.

The くれって seems to be a quote, because it would be くれて, if she was asking him? So something like… someone said to take the book shelf AND the bed, right?

I can ask my Japanese friends but the usually say it all depends on context, so given that they are new characters just blowing through the page, I’m assuming a Japanese would just read and keep going with out really worrying about understanding.

That seems about right. The English version translated it to something roughly like “she said we can take the floorboards not just the bookshelf” or something to that effect. However, translations are obviously not 1:1. I do think the くれって is a quote since it seems like she’s relaying what the person on the phone said. I also agree I think a native would 100% gloss over this XD. I think the main point is they are on their way out to go pick up some stuff and just kind of casually greet him as they’re leaving.

Chapter 2

There were so many lovely page layouts in this chapter! Especially when Tasuku was sleeping to the wintery music.

I felt so bad this chapter too for Tasuku being bullied so badly at school, but then I was glad to see the people at the lounge being so nice to him without prying about why he was having a hard time. :face_holding_back_tears:

Finishing chapter 1:

登り慣れてない、level 25, I just forget sometimes you can connect them like that.
越してきた、level 30, I didn’t realize you could short this and have it still mean moved to.
あっさり、I haven’t seen this word yet, easily, quickly.
幻を見た、まぼろし>ゆめ, I think they sometimes use simple words for furigana?
明後日、know this word just forget the kanji lol.
沈む、level 43 to sink. I’ve seen it before but rarely.

I found the location they show via the cats belly. The setting seems to Mukaishima?

Just double checked the summary in the first post and I guess it’s might be Onomichi rather then Mukaishima, but perhaps we will get more info on the precise location later on? And completely unrelated, but I just read a book in English recently that was also set in Onomichi, so it’s really heartwarming and interesting for me to see this setting again.

You’re probably right. It was just that Mukaishima was more centered in the zoom in, but the arrow is more on the cat’s stomach which seems to be the mainland lol.

Seems like the city of Onomichi is actually spanning both mainland and the Mukaishima island. How cool, now I want to visit.

うかれた空気が充満してる、I often have trouble with abstract language. Air is filled with excitement.
ガチじゃん, Never heard this word. It’s confirmed, it’s legit, isn’t it.

整える・ととのえる I forgot the reading of this one
うざ annoying
担任 new word たんにん, homeroom teacher?

I don’t have the manga with me right now but as much as I remember.

Yes.

The girls said that to the guys who were guessing at that moment who might be gay at school other than Tasuku.

ウマすぎる話 it is too good to be true(?)

Yes, this is confirmed in Chapter 3!

Chapter 3 panel

Page 79: Onomichi train station at bottom left

I first heard about Onomichi from when my partner was playing Yakuza 6, which is also mainly set there!

I learned about this construction for the first time here too! Makes sense

Yeah

Yeah, he’s talking about the rumour being circulated

I couldn’t immediately find some of the other vocab you had questions about. If it’s not too much trouble, next time if you could include the page numbers where there are specific questions, I think that would help with finding where they are in the chapter!

No worries! I think it’s fine if we all go at our own pace

Oh yeah, I’m really just looking up things as I go in case it useful to others. But I can include page numbers too.

I completely forgot about this book club  and I haven’t been on this forum that much as of late, which hasn’t helped.

I just read the first chapter (which was perfectly the free preview from Booklive), so I am technically only one week late.

I really like the style, although I have to say that 誰かさん just floating away from the cliff was kinda weird. I didn’t expect supernatural stuff in this story… I hope it’s just the main character being so confused that he imagined stuff. Other than that, I really like the setup and the style looks really good.

I have a bazillion stuff I need to finish reading and return to the library, though, so I’m not sure if I will be back before the end of the club, but I’ll still comment on what I thought.

I believe that 誰かさん is supernatural, but she/they (idk) are the only one. And she doesn’t really care enough to use the supernatural much anyway. I think at one point she’s gotten a part time job folding envelopes of something.

I forgot to say I really enjoyed the way the last one ended with the winter music.

鞄 Kanji we don’t for かばん
通知表 つうちひょう Report Card
橘君 must be the name of the person on the next page but not sure the reading.
襲ってくんな, ん can replace る so I assume this is くるな
(78) 釘は刺せた, Causative, put a nail into it. Seems to mean something about stopping the gossip?
へろへろの釘 weak, flimsy nail.

Eh, it’s late so that’s all I have in me. I have a hard time understanding the ping pong conversation even though I could “read” it but I understand the outcome I guess.

That kanji is read たちばな (and is a reasonably common family name)

The abstract phrases got me again

82: 影になって邪魔なんですけど。
Does this mean Taichi became a shadow, like he’s ghost or doesn’t show up? But later he is here? What?!

I so blessed to have just got to the forties because I could actually read: 破壊
分別箱・ぶんべつばこ・sorting box, just sounds cute lol
尾道空き家再生事業・おのみち あきや さいせい じぎょう・Jesus, Onomichi vacant house revitalization project

I don’t quite understand what the image became 誰かさん. Because he doesn’t want anyone to see he’s gay, but he also told her. I don’t really understand his fixation on her. Is it because she’s mean so he doesn’t feel like he has anything to lose with her?

I think it’s because of a few reasons: she (they?) seems a bit supernatural/out of this world, and that had Tasuku a bit mystified maybe. But others also said you could go talk to her without being judged or expecting an answer - I think its akin to opening up to a stranger without being judged or hearing their opinion back, so indeed having nothing to lose. Also, I think he is still struggling with the Am I really gay? Thing, and talking to her gave him some clarity as well.

Tasuku stands between the girl and the light, so she can’t read her book and warns Tasuku.
Girl: 影になって邪魔なんですけど。
Tasuku: えっああ、すみません。
