かけ上がった meaning

While doing some reviews on Kitsun I’ve come across some vocab with かけ (for example 話しかける). I was wondering what role that part played in the meaning of a word.

Maybe this? :slightly_smiling_face:

かける means to run or dash
あがる means to rise or do completely (after the stem of a verb)

So yes, it does involve かける :slightly_smiling_face:
かける has like a million meanings lmao (obviously I exaggerate but there’s a lot)

I think the かけ in 話し掛ける is more to do with ‘hanging’ and IME seems to agree. So these two are actually not very related.

Finding it hard to find words for explaining the commonality between words that use 掛ける, though.

Edit: Jisho has this note on かける: after -masu stem of verb; indicates an action is being directed to someone

Sums it up quite well
