おじさまと猫 (Ojisama to neko) book club

I have the ebook, so I would prefer ebook page numbers. But I wouldn’t mind if we do the physical book page numbers.

Myself and whoever else was adding words originally for the first 5-6 chapters used the physical page numbers unless someone edited them. I would prefer the original physical ones but I’ll go with whatever the group decides.

Even though I have the ebook I prefer the numbers to match the physical book. I can check the “actual” page numbers as easily as a physical book user can, but they can’t check ebook page numbers.

It shouldn’t be much of a problem to add a small note somewhere that it’s +2 pages (I think?).
Or we can always add two columns in the vocab sheet and let the ebook page numbers auto-fill when adding the physical book page numbers. How about that?

That sounds like a good compromise. So far the votes seem split even

That’s a great idea! I’ll try to implement it after starting the thread for this week.

Edit: I will try to implement it sometime this week. Someone else is welcome to do the edits themselves though. I’m currently having some personal problems.

The next thread is up! Sorry for the delay!

Sorry, the thread for this week is now up! Also, if someone else could make a comment after this, I would appreciate it so Discourse doesn’t throw a fit about the three post rule.

@Sarabrina would be so kind and add the links to the discussion threads to the first post please?

Here are the links, so it might be easier to just copy and paste:

Just throwing my personal thoughts into the ring:

  1. I think for the upcoming volume(s) one thread would be enough. The amount of people reading Ojineko wasn’t very high to begin with. Also there are not many questions or discussions in the threads (except for last week but that was mostly due to organization than actual discussion of the contents of the manga). Even with just one thread per volume we can have a weekly reading schedule.

  2. As for thr schedule: I’d actually prefer a faster reading speed (so more than two chapters a week). What do others think about that?

In general, I’m wondering who wants to read past volume 1 with the book club?

I’d be okay with a faster reading speed. I could do probably 3-4 chapters a week, but wouldn’t be able to keep up if it was any faster.

People love polls, so let me try one (or tw… three)

Do you want to continue reading Ojineko?

  • Yes
  • No
  • Maybe later

If we continue with the book club, how many chapters of Ojineko per week do you think you could manage?

  • 1 chapter per week
  • 2 chapters per week
  • 3 chapters per week
  • 4 chapters per week
  • 5 chapters per week
  • more than 5 chapters per week

What frequency do you suggest for posting threads?

  • 1 thread per week (regardless of how many chapters are being read)
  • 1 thread per volume
  • other (comment below please)

Also, even if people don’t want to read past vol. 2 together, I don’t mind making threads for the rest of the volumes so that people can still contribute to a vocab list and ask questions if they like.

It seems like @Sallyjoe25 prefers the status quo (2 chapters / week). I wouldn’t really want to go with the majority on this one (a tie between 3-4 chapters / week atm) because I think it is better to have as many people reading with us as possible. I don’t mind going with a slower speed than I prefer.

I’m wondering, though, if maybe 3 chapters per week would be okay for you @Sallyjoe25 if we took short breaks between volumes (1-2 weeks?) and maybe short breaks during holdiay seasons (e.g. last few days of December)?

That is fine with me. I will read along with the group and continue even if I fall behind. I don’t want to hold the group up. So whatever the decision is, I’m fine with it.

Thanks
