It’s meant to say, “I didn’t know hyenas could be transgender…”. For whatever reason, I decided that かな was the correct particle for this, but that was clearly wrong, as I just sat here for at least 10 minutes trying to remember what I was trying to say, lol. Let’s see… is 「ハイエナもトランスジェンダー (to be) ができますを知りません…」more natural? (I didn’t know if です was the correct way to word this, so I left it out this time.)
Also, is 何色 pronounced なんいろ or なにいろ? I’m fairly certain that it’s なんいろ, but I don’t want to go throwing around incorrect pronunciations all willy-nilly.

To say “I didn’t know hyenas could be transgender,” you can say 「ハイエナがトランスジェンダー(だ)とは思ってもみなかった」 or 「ハイエナがトランスジェンダー(だ)とは知らなかった」. The former means “You didn’t even think hyenas could be transgender” and the latter simply means “I didn’t know that.”
