So I started Frieren volume 7 and had an interesting feeling of “I’ve read this scenes before, right? Or maybe it’s just the anime had them, or when I read in English a long long time ago?”
Anyway, eventually the feeling got too hard to ignore and I checked my Natively profile and I had in fact read volume 7 already. So instead… onto volume 8!
Anyway, my last update before I close my laptop for the night is I’ve read the first 5 chapters of volume 8
I may read more in bed tonight, but if so the update on that will be tomorrow.

At first I thought this was going to be a boring one because the plot is already very familiar, but the ending was unexpected, and I feel like the story really delivered. 
Social time and going out to dinner meant it was hard to time reading, especially cause I was trying to sneak in a few pages here and there in order to get through the longest story in the book so I’d have a chance of finishing tonight. Now I just have what looks like it will be a scary story and rereading the two that I’d already read before.

Wow building these tables is annoying one errant char and everything goes 
So I thought my reading speed was still slow but one thing I was able to do was compare the same book I’ve been working on since last time. I thought originally felt faster but then felt like a slog again…but this time around can compare directly and looks like reading speed has increased by ~27%…so win!!! (assuming no math errors) Increasing reading speed (for me) is just gonna be a super slow long slog…I’m not a reading wizard like some…but progress that can be measured is nice to see!
Manga ended up around the same as last time, really just worked on finishing off stuff I was reading, regular bookclub reads, and the Natively BK that turns out to be hella hard to just sit down and read for many reasons…but overall the reading level of the manga is definitely higher than Spring 2025. I wanted to make a dent in some easy manga and go for quantity.
This time around went in w/o any goals figured see what falls out from my regular reading + whatever I read extra for this event. Turns out figured this little fact out last time and again seems to hold for me - once it gets about 6 hours, motivation really falls off… but heck that’s a big chunk of a 24 hour period minus sleep.
Considering the overall results, I do see an overall improvement, but isn’t obvious unless I look at the level of the reading materials, it has pushed into the higher 20s and low 30s now. Guess that makes cents 
So need to work on more bingo squares, finish this shousetu…I keep avoiding the wall of text, but then when I pick it up I don’t want to put it down.
Also looking forward to finishing GLT…honestly turning out to be one of my favorite reads and being able to fairly easily get through a chapter in 20 min w/o pain it’s fun to read and provokes some great thinking/philosophical questions.

I really wanted to reread the first two chapters in order to be able to say that I read the entire book in one day. But the way the hiragana is swimming around the page now makes me feel like maybe … that is a stretch goal too far. Anyway, plenty of self-respecting graded readers are only 167 pages long, so it’s still like I read a whole book in a day …
Anyway, comments on the last story … it was written by … THE Akutagawa!? As I expected, it was kind of scary. Definitely intense. Brain is too toasty for much more than that.

Alright, I wasn’t going to but how can I resist. 
Starting my 24 hrs now; Sunday 10:10am Japan time. Will be traveling a bunch today with some transfers, so not sure how much reading time that’ll actually give me. Will be good to have something to focus me on not just looking at my phone though!
Rough goals (?); for novels I’ll probably read some 黒猫ニャンゴの冒険2 and this week’s chapter of 香君. Might start something new as well. (マウス is feeling likely, or something a bit shorter with a chance to finish today.) For manga, I started One Piece 97 yesterday, so it might be nice to make some more headway there. Other candidates are my whole backlog.

Update 1:
Starting off slow today, went out on a cycle to a restaurant to get breakfast as my excursion for the day before melting into sofa to read. Exactly 45 mins to get through half of the remaining 国境の南, another 45 minutes from now and I should be done. I have many thoughts about this book but I’ll spare you all them for now.
From now, time to lock in and get these numbers up for the rest of the day

I’m pretty frustrated. I had a whole stressful family thing come up all day when all I wanted to do was read. I’m hoping to have a fresh restart later tonight. I won’t count what I read earlier today. I should have lots of time because I’ll be travelling all day tomorrow. I won’t have WIFI for a while tomorrow, so I’ll post my results tomorrow evening. Update 2:
Finished novel! Took pretty much exactly 45 mins again to get through the rest of it. This book started off amazingly, but after that it was a bit hit and miss. Still, the writing style is great, even if the main character isn’t.

First update
Ok started my day off a little closer to evening than afternoon at 2025-06-22T01:30:00Z. Started out trying to read in a cafe but it was a bit crowded so I’ve given up and gone home now. Read around 20 pages so far. It’s been a while since I’ve read a physical book instead of digital so I’m missing my instant lookups lol
It actually already came out last month! NO. 6 再会 #1, looks like it’s gonna be another series from the volume number. I really wasn’t expecting one after so long so I was really surprised by the news!
