女子 means girl now. I think it was young girl earlier

I think earlier 女の子, 女子 both meant young girl. But now 女子 just means girl. Is this correct?

They both have girl as the primary meaning.

I have no idea which meanings WK had before, but 女子 makes more sense as “girl”.
