Writing down material

Apparently writing notes (paper pencil) is better for memory retention than typing, and after trying it out for a month, I agree.

During reviews, I write down the terms and readings when I enter meanings.

It’s helped me remember my hiragana. Also, it really locks in the radical combo and reading, because I have to produce both at the same time.

Although I also do 5 lessons a day, so…this probably isn’t too feasible if you do more than that.

any thoughts will be considered!

I’ve started writing practice very recently and for some reason I’m writing horizontally instead of vertically. I really like how it looks on your notes, thanks for the inspiration, I’m going to try to write horizontally too! (will probably alternate between the two)

I don’t know if Japanese people really write vertically when note taking. Maybe they at least will do when the space is limited (and it feels less out of place than with English.)

Still, I really wrote vertically in AnkiDroid, with S-pen.

I didn’t use 原稿用紙 for Japanese (though I have used grid papers for Chinese).

To be honest, writing vertically was kind of on a whim, but I’m glad you’ve been inspired!

I find that grids make the kanji easier to proportion correctly. I can’t really write without them
