I’m using Bunpro for the first time because I noticed the Grammar I learned in Genki is not sticking. It’s incredibly hard T^T, but I guess I do not understand why this is incorrect here?
I wonder if it really is incorrect or if Bunpro is wrong here…
I’m not sure they give “ころ” as the correct answer, which I know conversationally you often drop the ですか because the upper inflection of ころ takes care of it, but grammatically Genki teaches to add the ですか, I thought.
For as many things I love about Bunpro, I find it is often way too particular with what it wants versus how vague it’s expectations in asking the user tends to be. This kind of stuff drove me absolutely insane when I first started it.
I don’t particularly like this solution since I find value in manually typing- but there is an option for Bunpro reviews to function on an Anki-styled “yes/no” verification style rather than a typing one. I switched over to it after continually getting answers wrong just for using a slight variation on a grammar point (still grammatically correct, mind you) and it has made it much less frustrating. I think that grammar is just too complex to comfortably work on a SRS system like this but I find it to be the best compromise. Might be worth trying if you haven’t already
Doesn’t it sometimes ask for informal forms?
it’s not at all incorrect, since no one said it yet
i think it asks for polite form specifically when it wants it and otherwise it’s not needed from what i’ve seen
I saw this option but when switching I got worried it didn’t work out the other type of creative recall. But tbh I may just switch it because I’m getting so frustrated.
Maybe I haven’t realized this but If it’s not noting “polite” in the answer line I should just assume it wants the conversational version? (No ですか)
i’d bet that’s the case, but i haven’t used bunpro myself i’ve just seen others use it
Well, I have some reviews up I can test that theory out!
If it doesn’t say polite or standard, then it normally doesn’t care which register you put it in. Worth posting on the bunpro forums to get their team’s opinion on it - probably they just forgot to load both variants in the acceptable answers to be honest.
I can do that!! Thank you!!
Doing Bunpro Vocab by cloze is maddening for that exact reason. It doesn’t work because a lot of the words have multiple definitions and Bunpro expects you to know even the most obscure ones.
Yeah I think overall I might just do Anki and make the decks for the ones I struggle with. I hate Anki’s UI
