Why does 天才 not rendaku?!

I read Tofugu’s Rendaku article and think I understand the concept at this point.

BUT

Why doesn’t 天才 rendaku to てんざい but instead is てんさい ー is this just one of those exceptions or am I mistaken when I think it should rendaku?
