What is the meaning of こういち?

I’m trying to memorize the reading mnemonics for some kanji in level one, but I don’t understand the reading mnemonic at all.

Whenever we need to remember the sound こう we use the name こういち. You’ll become familiar with this name after a while because the reading こう comes up a lot.

Is こういち a person? How am I supposed to remember this sound? What is the significance of こういち?
