What’s the difference between 分かる and 解る?

I see both written in manga, is it nothing more than aesthetic or is there a nuance that I’m not getting?

First it helps to know that there are two main meanings for わかる, to understand (意味が理解できる), and to become clear or to be found out (はっきりしなかったものが明らかになる).

分かる can express either and is a joyo reading.

解る expresses only “to understand”
判る expresses only “to become clear”

Both of those are not joyo readings.
