Welcome to the new WaniKani forums

Question about the old board archives.

I bookmarked a few wk threads that had links to things like podcasts and discussions on grammar, and I’m wondering if there is an easy way to change the old URL to the new one?
Unfortunately, I tend to change bookmark titles to explain why I’ve bookmarked if the forum topic didn’t say it clearly enough so there’s a few I can’t just run a search for the name

Obviously, if this isn’t possible, its not the end of the world. Looking forward to testing out the new boards!

sorry, you’re stuck. You must be here forever now.

I think it just resizes horizontally, and then centers vertically.

/me does the thing where you put your hand out for a high five but then takes it away at the last minute.

then gives you a real high five.

Couldn’t help but notice your name is Sylph. Is that short for ‘Sylphrena?’ (a reference to the Stormlight Archive franchise?)

Holy Goddess of All Things Lengthy

@viet are there any plans to change the forums so that there’s not a bajillion per page? Like 10 - 20 would be a decent number.

Also question. Do we need to filter our language more now that most stuff is public? I have a super hard time with that, even though I did try to filter it a bit in the old ones. I curse like a sailor in real life. Peppers the speech n’ all.

It looks like we can still quote. Kinda sad that replies are nested because that’s easy to go unnoticed and less likely to result in a continued conversation, although I guess more likely to mean side discussions not relevant to the original post topic can remain there, and I guess we can still just use the quote feature as a reply thingy.

Also thank you for responding to AnimeCanuck and my (and maybe others’) emails and making the forums accessible for us.I had a sad when I couldn’t get to it.

I think you’ll just have to do it manually :frowning:

Though if you click the old links, I think it will forward to the new url, so at least there’s that.

Oh wait, nevermind, I can’t figure out how to quote someone like before? Does that mean we have to reply, because if so, that’s poop.

I think technically you were never supposed to use the boo boo words. Just, you know, keep it kinda pg-13 if you could.

I think it gets nested and appears at the bottom like a new post (and also shows what you were replying to). So should be best of both worlds

That’s good enough for me!
Appreciate it Koichi-san!!

Awkwardly steals high five

I took a look at the actual CSS - here’s the exact low-down:

Profile backgrounds are 420px (roughly - there’s an empty div with a margin offsetting everything a bit, as well as an odd internal negative margin and some dynamic content… for me it all comes out to between 426 and 460px) tall when expanded, and the height is entirely dynamic when not. On mobile, profile backgrounds are actually broken - for some reason they tile!

User cards have no set height, but instead depend on their contents. For me, user cards are 297.5px tall, but that shouldn’t be relied on. They in fact have a default width of 580 (not 590!) pixels, and shrink down to 500px wide if badges aren’t being shown.

So, basically… don’t rely on specific height at all, and just make sure what’s in the center of the image is interesting. Wherever they are, the backgrounds are centered vertically and scaled up to cover the entire area.

Edit: Oh, right - worth mentioning is that profile background areas can get pretty tall, especially if you’ve got a narrow window or you’re on mobile. User cards, however, don’t show up on mobile and will always have at least a reasonably horizontal layout, so images where the entire width needs to be shown are more okay there.

Stretched out hand for high five, sees high five shenanigans, and awkwardly claps to try to alleviate the awkwardness (which only got intensified by the clap).
