Well that grandma was super suspicious. She was acting like she was going to send protag to that temple so he could become a zombie too.

The end section with the cat made me chuckle a bit.

I think 水上ばあさん is a zombie hunter! And if Kazu had told her about Akari then she would have killed Akari. :sob: Luckily, our boy Kazu is great at not doing what adults want him to do. (But on the other hand not so great at not doing what dog-sized black cats want him to do … :joy:)

Also, I think the writing style for this book is really interesting … it’s not hard in terms of vocabulary at all, but the sentences are like a constant barrage of high-level grammar comprehension requirements. If my grammar level were just a little bit lower I’m sure I’d be having the old “hiragana soup” problem where you can’t even distinguish words from each other anymore. As it is I still have to go back and reread a sentence at least once per page.

I’m in the midst of a really busy period at work so I haven’t had much mid-week reading time - but I’ve now caught up to last week at least!

Thoughts

I’m more in mara’s camp. A little creepy but I think maybe in the end she’ll be helpful? What’s that character from the hero’s journey called… a mentor?

Maybe I’m biased because I like cats - a dog sized black cat can only be a good thing in my book.
