Today I couldnt read a lot, so I just read the 5 pages I needed to catch up to week 5
I encountered many obstacles in those last pages, but most of them I succeeded in understanding, except the し used everywhere in page 29
この後あばれたしな
→ I have understood it is a continuative form (連用形) + な, but despite a lot of explanations online, I couldnt wrap my head around it. I understood that it is a form that can be used to transform adjectives into adverbs, but not much else (how is it related to し?). Here are the sentences that confused me :
もらったし
おいしかったし
I also almost got tricked or confused by っス but then I remembered other mangas where they were using it
(ですshortened, seems to be used a lot by young characters)
Big learning for today is finally understanding why けど is used everywhere : to give the sentence open ended for other person to reply. (in this chapter’s case). I was so confused trying to litterally translate it by “but” and it never working. Now I finally understand lol.
The Tofugu website is actually GOATed for obscure / detailed grammar points explanations. Bunpro can be quite dry in this regard.
It’s interesting how many things cannot be directly and litterally translated, it feels uncommon and interesting as an experience. It didnt happen a lot when I was learning english
