If you have a question about grammar, vocab, the story, cultural things or anything else related to the book — ask! There’s no need to be shy. If it’s something you are wondering about, chances are someone else will be thankful you asked first, lots of people enjoy answering questions, you learn something new, and the thread gets more lively. It’s a win-win on all fronts!
Really liking this book so far, especially this chapter. I thought maybe some sections were a little bit more complex than previous parts, I think because there was more explanation, but overall not too difficult. Quite a few new words though.
Thoughts on this section (spoilers)
Poor kid, I felt bad for him that he’s getting all this grief now just for standing up for a class mate. And when they broke the gift he got from his dad?
Looking forward to seeing where they go with this, whether the bullies get any sort of comeuppance and whether he can get his knife fixed or not.
Okey so in the last section, Ayame was bullied by ppl and apparently “eaten” by the clock. After that she apparently haunted someone in their bed? Then when is this story taking place? Is the ayame he met in this chapter a spooky ghost or someone because of their strange ass smile? Or when was Ayame getting “eaten”? help
I read this section but apparently forgot to reply! Oh no, bullies!!! Cheer up buddy, you can totally glue that knife back together I liked the description of the knife, it sounded like something I also would have loved to have as a child

Oh, I think you missed where the book switched from the story about Daiki and Ayame to unrelated (or are they??) stories in the book he’s reading. So this book is a ‘story within a story’ type thing. The last section was one of the embedded stories (that Daiki was reading in the book) and the girl who was eaten by the clock then showed up covered in blood in the bed was named 葵 Aoi. Then he finished reading the story and went and had the interactions with the bullies etc. So Ayame was not the girl in the last story, and her and Daiki have not yet heard the clock at 4:44.
Fun English fact: a story within a story is called a ‘framing device’
aah you are right!! I forget things so fast haha, just one week since I read that and already forgot that it was a story in the book. My brain like shortcuts so I just combined Aoi and Ayame since both worked at a library, thank you!!!
