Discussion Guidelines

 • Please blur/hide any major events in the current week’s pages (however early they occur), like so:

 • (that’s
text here
).

 • If you have a question about grammar, vocab, the story, cultural things or anything else related to the book — ask! There’s no need to be shy. If it’s something you are wondering about, chances are someone else will be thankful you asked first, lots of people enjoy answering questions, you learn something new, and the thread gets more lively. It’s a win-win on all fronts!

I could have sworn we started this book club with 15 members but now we’re down to 3? Did you all fall down a cliff in Moominvalley? Is it me? Am I a book club killer??? :weary_cat:

I would like to have a quaint little shop just like the one Moomin and friends found in this chapter.

I’d like to visit a shop like that. I enjoyed all the different creatures at the dance and trying to puzzle out which was which in the illustration.

I don’t know what happened to everyone else! But as someone who isn’t a huge manga fan and doesn’t have the skills to read harder books this has been great. I’m being very fast and loose with lots of lookups but it means I can get through it at a reasonable pace which is nice.

For those that don’t know how this ends, bets on the conclusion? My guess is that the comet burns up in the atmosphere making some very pretty fireworks :fireworks:.

This usually happens with beginner clubs because people may join even though the level is a bit hard for them and then have trouble keeping up and fall behind. The previous club started with 17 votes for ‘I’m reading along!’ in week 1, and by the final week, had 4 votes for ‘I’m reading along!’ So the dropoff is pretty similar here.

We may see more people commenting in the future if they were only a few weeks behind, and then catch up all at once. I’m like 4 weeks behind in the club but I’ll still finish the whole book and comment in all the threads :slightly_smiling_face:
