I’d say Mitsuki just accidentally discovered what Step 1 towards playing on stage at a rock festival is.
Pavement, King Gizzard & [the Lizard Wizard]. School of Rock.

Well, uh… this is a turn of events.
I occasionally see 成田 add (棒) to his dialogue. From looking it up, it seems like that’s net slang for him saying it in a really dry or monotonous way so as to add a kind of sarcastic or ‘fake’ sense to his words, is that right?
I’m not sure if it’s net slang. I’ve seen it defined as “wooden” delivery. (Like how someone who is really really bad at acting might deliver their lines.)
Edit: I checked, my dictionary does say it’s internet slang.
oh but wooden is useful because i’ll be like 棒 = a wooden pole = wooden delivery. nice one!

If anyone (like me) has forgotten the context behind the character on pages 113-114, re-read the strip that starts on page 71.

Interesting how band names are repeated as-is, but movies get the Bland Name treatment. Page 130, the films are Footloose and Pretty in Pink (the second one took a fair bit longer than the first one to work out, mostly because I went for “Rhaposdy in Blue” first…)
Page 141, the Wheatus mention is probably a reference to their song Teenage Dirtbag, though I’m not entirely certain.
Page 148, I completely agree, Aya - why on Earth has everything been so awkward for the last two weeks?
Yeah, I think so. I don’t particularly remember this song being about a prom, but the “tickets to iron maiden baby” verse is set at a prom, and the music video features a prom scene from the movie Loser.
Gonna have this song stuck in my head all evening now…
Also, enjoyed their enthusiasm about the Beatles!

Guhhhh, that’s a place to finish…
Someone remind me, did we ever learn what happened to Koga’s actual parents?
I don’t think so. I asked Snapchat AI and it said, In “気になっている人が男じゃなかった” (Kininaru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta), the story focuses on Koga’s relationship with his adoptive parents, but it doesn’t delve into the details of what happened to his biological parents. The narrative primarily highlights the warmth and support he receives from his adoptive family.
And with that we are finished! For me this has lost a bit of its sparkle since volume 1. Since the initial dual personality was revealed it’s become a bit more of just a high school romance manga. But still enjoyed the artwork style and all the cultural references.
At that’s too bad but I feared it would be that way. I just ordered my physical copy so I’ll make up my mind soon enough.
Yeah, it was ok, but I confess I enjoyed this volume a bit less too. The added wrinkle of Hasegawa was kinda unneccesary. Though I am wondering if the story is going in the direction of “the guy she was interested in actually is a guy after all”…
Also, whether it’s Terrace House or high school manga, all relationships seem to develop at a glacial pace in Japan…
Yeah, hight school setting romance gets stale pretty fast, the story beats have all been done before. At least the art is still very pretty!
