Learning the names for the planets is actually pretty cool because they correspond to the names of the days of the week! Here’s a semi recent discussion about it, with a link to more examples of the same pattern on wikipedia.
It’s also useful knowledge if you’re a Sailor Moon fan, because the Sailor Moon characters share the same elemental correspondences as the kanji in the planet names.
I can’t believe I had to learn the numbers from one to whatever that last one was because I never used these words since they teached me in little kid school.

Completely off-topic, but I somehow started remembering the kids in school who used to bully me for being a space enthusiast (nerd).
