Took a break and struggling to dive back in

Hi everyone,

I moved across the country in February. Before that, I had a regular routine (at least 30-45 minutes / day) of Japanese studying. I took a few days off - which has now turned into over a month. Now all the sudden I have 600+ reviews and it feels sooo daunting to jump back in. Has anyone else been in a similar position? A big factor is that I now work east coast hours on the west coast (moved from NYC to LA), and in NYC I’d do most of my studying before work, but now I wake up super early and get right to work so my whole routine is thrown off. Anyways just curious if anyone can relate or has any words of encouragement or advice!

Thank you!

Advice:

  • you don’t have to catch up all in one day. 50-100 extra reviews a day will have you back down in a couple of weeks, even counting failures.

  • I would suggest not doing new lessons until you’re happy with the review count and not too many in Apprentice and Guru.

  • “Cheat” and review all the levels in order, 1-14 outside of the SRS before you start. The reduced pain in the official reviews is sooooo worth the risk of burning something too early.
