It depends, I’m doing quite a bit of reading so I just get practice from that. Words/kanji that aren’t common I do often forget if I don’t see them often enough and just doing the SRS can help but it will never fix that problem completely. The only solution is to just read more and read a variety of different things so you get a varied mixture of different words.
Today I celebrated my 100th guru’d item!

the very essence of SRS is that items land in your long-term memory. that means that in theory, it shouldn’t even be necessary to get exposure during these intervals. but while learning, this will happen, one way or the other, which is not a bad thing, as it reinforces existing memories, by shortness between exposure, and by adding new context to them.
unless you take long breaks doing nothing at all, you will not forget a lot of items in master/enlightened. guru’d items are not yet mature enough, and there’s always that odd one.
Not sure this is the right place to post this but I have this script installed to celebrate every time I level up and after I finished my reviews today I got this? Even though I still have a bunch of lessons to finish and WK is still telling me I’m level 2?
Welp ![]()
Did you installed it just now? ![]()
Nah, I had installed on my first level up, so I find it weird that it would trigger now… Maybe I did so many reviews I tricked the system? ![]()
Oh, I’m also going through it. I just saw you were passing through this situation, so I opened the post. I am really excited about meeting level 2, but I’m still a little bit messy with the level 1 reviews. I intend to get more from the vocabulary of level 1 to the Guru level and then I’ll start the level 2 lessons. I just think it’s all about you knowing what’s your limit and what you can take.
Note: LOL did you gave a look at the vocabs of level 2? They’re too hard for me omg no i can do this lol bye
Don’t be scared! Do as many lessons as you’re comfortable each day but really, some vocab might seem too complicated when you first learn it, you might not even get it right the first few reviews when it shows up, but it gets better and you do eventually learn it!
Don’t give up!
ThanQ! ThanQ, ThanQ…
I am obviously scared, but I won’t let this take me down! I am going to make my best at the Kanji learning… and maybe pay the subscription for WaniKani in time? XD
The positive attitude and energy of this post goes well with your profile picture. ![]()
Thank you!! Life is too short to have a negative attitude towards it… (Most) anything is possible with enough hard work and dedication and learning Japanese is definitely one of those things!
Speaking of,
I GOT LEVEL 3 LAST NIGHT! Was at a coffee shop studying, and after I finished my reviews there it was! I was so shocked, I was expecting it to take me a couple more days c:

Congrats! You’ll get there, one step at a time.
Congrats on level 3! Some fun vocab in this level ![]()
It’s been a while since I updated this but!!! I got my first few Master items today!
I didn’t expect to be this excited oof but for a while there level 3 was kicking my butt and just when I started getting back into the rhythm of things, this is the type of encouragement I needed! ![]()
Wow congrats on your first Master items!![]()
How did you manage to get them so fast
I’m level 4 now and still 2 days away from my first Master I think. ![]()
Tbh, I don’t know either! I guess the method is just really working… My reviews are consistently over 80/90% correct after the first couple of reviews I do for new items, which I think helps!
Also, I pretty much try to do my reviews as soon as they’re available ![]()
But don’t worry too much, take things at your own pace, what’s important is that you acquire the knowledge, not the numbers!

Oof, I stumbled a bit (a lot) through Level 3 but it’s done! The last couple of days were an anxious mess, I felt like I was taking too long on this particular level and that was just making me nervous…
But I did! And I got a bunch of mastered items along the way too ![]()
I’ve now subscribed for a full 1-year subscription, let’s see if I can be one of those who get to level 60 in 1 year ![]()
I’m also using KaniWani on the side, and since I’ve started using it I realized that it’s going to be invaluable to help me really nail down vocab in the long run! However, I do need to catch up on my grammar studies too so tomorrow I’ll be dedicating my whole day to just Japanese studies ![]()
Yay! You started a little before I did, and I just hit level 4 too. Took me 15 days to finish level 3 but whatever! Progress is progress
good luck to us both
Good luck!
You oughta celebrate EVERY little piece of progress you make so don’t be too harsh on yourself, if you take a little longer on a certain level… what matters is that you reach your goal!
In the end, things that seemed so difficult yesterday end up feeling so easy tomorrow ![]()
Thats the key! Ever little step to level 60 counts. Better let these kanji stick, rahter than rush an then forget everything.
Glad to share the journey with you guys ![]()
