The same mnemonic is used for both すう and す

Generally I’ve noticed that WK is smart enough to make long and short sounds have separate mnemonics. E.g.

  • とう is Tokyo and と is toe.
  • どう is dough or donut (I think?) and ど is dog.

But for some inexplicable reason, both すう and are sue??? See hyperlinks in previous sentence for examples.

+1 from me on this.

I find the short-long vowel distinction one of the hardest things in wk to tackle.

Maybe sueing could be long but Sue short? But the existing stories make use of both.

Or the long one could be soon… or suit… or sookie sookie now.

Or maybe… soup?

I’ve finally reached the point in my progression where I often make my own mnemonics. So I think I’m going with soup. Maybe even this which will probably create more outrageous scenes in my head, which I’ve found are easier to remember.

すう is actually a pretty rare reading. There’s 数, words that include 数, and 吸う and… that’s kind of it for common words with すう。

I also found:

But yeah I agree it’s rare.

I’ll bring this up with the content team, thanks!
