If you search forums (or just google “nin vs jin”), there will be bunch of old topics, couple of examples

Remembering the Reading of 人

So, my question pertains to words that end with the character 人: 殺人、悪人、住人、etc. These vocab use either the にん or the じん reading. My problem is that I keep getting these readings mixed up, to the point that I’ve now brought one vocabulary term down from almost Enlightened back to the second layer of Apprentice. Is there any good way to distinguish between the にん and じん readings in these type of words, or do you just kind of have to memorize it?

Fun with 人 and じん vs にん

So I figure this might help those that have trouble knowing when which reading is reasonably possible, outside of purely memorizing each word (which i imagine a lot of us have done). It has helped me be more thoughtful in working out the right one and putting the two endings into a more conceptual space in my brain.

My understanding that while there are some patterns present, many people use different mnemonics (like ninja/nintendo and Jin/jeans/genes).
