The Kadokawa fair has expanded to include discounts in my regular recommendation wheelhouse: Harta and Beam, meaning that many excellent and interesting manga series are in that magical sweet spot of being discounted to 50% off with also 50% coinback – although the coinback is only if the order totals 1500 yen or more.
Those links above are to pages restricted to the items with discounts for the given label, so be sure to check them out. But in particular, works getting the highest possible recommendation from me personally (not that it’s news to anyone) are:
ダンジョン飯 - beloved fantasy adventure that stresses the importance of eating well, currently enjoying an excellent anime adaptation that’s far enough along now it’s ramping up in drama.
いやはや熱海くん and the short stories of 田沼朝 - beloved (by specifically me) low-key, literary-feeling slice-of-life driven by mundane, elegantly individual, Kansai-ben conversations between characters, and my favorite contemporary discovery in the last few years. I don’t know if anyone has taken me up on the suggestion to read the first short story fully contained in the preview for the story collection to see if they’d be into the style, but please do! It’s very good.
Also it doesn’t seem like it’s specifically because of the Kadokawa festival, but the easy to read primer on Japanese history that I like to recommend is very heavily discounted and also has coinback, along with the series it’s a part of. If you have any interest in Japanese history (and to be honest, I think that you should if you have interest in the language) it’s a good starting place.
And anyway, it seems like generally a good time to look at your checklist or browse, if you’re interested in discounted stuff.
One specific other discount I was going to mention tomorrow with the free book query results but I guess might as well now, is I noticed that (presumably because of the new movie) some volumes of works by Tsukasa Hojo including City Hunter are discounted very heavily.
It seems like if your order is above 1500 yen you should probably think of 5/7 (火) 09:59まで as the cutoff for all of the above because of the coinback thing.
The discounts go until 5/9 (木) 23:59まで though.
