I’m doing the normal party playthrough on the gameboy that lives in my phone and I think all black mage on my computer with the pixel remaster is possible, but it may take some save scumming if they all die a lot because of low health or something. Thief and monk have evade and absorb and red mage is a decent jack of all trades, so all black mage is probably one of the harder challenges and it’d be funny. I understand this first one is short compared to future games so two runs wouldn’t be that hard maybe?
try it … worst thing that happens is it’s not possible though I suspect there is a way somehow (no clue personally)
when I started this mess ages ago … I went with the default 4 - named them and didn’t even stop to consider the ramifications of the various choices
Would be nice to have all the great links now burried in thread (where to buy, the bundle discount, the scripts and so on) somewhere in the first post
I’m not sure how to handle this though, because there are so many platforms and regions to account for… It’s not like I can just put a bookwalker link.
If somebody knows how to format that into something usable, please post it, I’ll put it in the OP.
Digital Buying Options
Note: Links are for US digital stores. You may need to switch to your local region to purchase.
Beware: Not all sites list which languages are supported. I’m assuming they all support Japanese, but we can’t know unless we get confirmation from buyers.

Good luck trying to secure a copy of anything other than the Pixel Remaster!
Thank you! I put that in the FF1 OP.
not me but I know some people that would love this challenge… ebay has at least one copy for famicom @javerend (sure there are others if someone wanted to actually try to catch them all)
I will straight up admit to the piracy in my case, but if I wanted to do it more legitimately I could get a gameboy cartridge from ebay for FF1&2 in japanese, they’re only $15-25. I already have a famicom themed GBA with a japanese copy of ice climbers. There is shipping as well though so it may not be the best option, but it’s possible. SE makes more money off the pixel remasters though, so the secondhand market isn’t quite the same.
Does anyone have this version?
For those who do – I have a question: does it have the language option or does it use the system language? In other words, can I set the game to Japanese without having to change my phone’s System language?
It seems like all versions of the Pixel Remaster are remarkably similar, so I would have been surprised if the language options were missing from some of them.
Although one thing I read online regarding the smartphone port is that it can only be played with touch controls, you apparently can’t use a bluetooth controller for instance.
Good news from a year ago:
The mobile Pixel Remasters now have controller support
At least the iOS version, and I would assume the Android version does, too
Gamepad support is now available for iOS/Android ports of the Pixel Remasters!
Started the PSP version tonight. Got past the bridge but chicken out and ran back to the first city. (Enemies were fine but I got no items).
I’m in. Grateful for the opportunity to return back to FFI. I started it a few years ago but gave up after I reached the elves. My Japanese teacher actually made some cheat sheets for me with translations for the whole script and selected vocabulary, which is cool! I’d share but the translations are in Greek.
Could you also add this tip from Midnightblue? If someones finds the book club thread after the club is done with the game it can still be useful (this post)
Done, I’ve added it in the “where to buy” section of the FF1 home thread.
