Finished more than half of the December 3 presser! I translated it in sort of an odd order to make it a bit easier to split up the translation posts.
First of all, here’s the transcript, and here’s the video. I had a hard time finding the video at first because they actually streamed it live this time (rather than just uploading it), so it was in a different part of their youtube channel.
The part I translated first is at the start of both the transcript and the video: Uta Takami & Anri vs Ren Konatsu & Shion. However, in the time since the press conference, they announced that Anri actually won’t be debuting, so this match won’t be happening as originally planned. I don’t think it’s been announced what the replacement match will be. It was kind of bummer timing for me because I had literally just finished translating this part and was getting excited about the match, and then the news came out 
. Oh well, Shion’s debut will be exciting just on its own, too!
I guess the first question I had was what’s the best way to translate the (仮)’s after their names… “アンリ(仮)＆シオン(仮)デビュー戦◎高見汐珠＆アンリ(仮)vs小夏れん＆シオン(仮)”. “Provisional name”? Everything I could come up with sounded a bit weird… I think I’ll only include the (仮)’s the first time and not the rest of the time because however I translate it, it’s a lot longer in English.
In any case, here’s the actual presser:
On December 3, the “Ittenyon Korakuen Public Press Conference” was held in Akihabara Hundred 7 in Tokyo. Hosted by ring announcer Rise Shirai, additional match announcements for the January 4 Korakuen Hall show were made, and the title match contract signings were conducted.
Uta: "Yes, I am Uta Takami.”
The middle chunk of this was a bit tricky: “私はこのデビュー戦に対戦相手として、チームとして組むということを初めて聞いたときは正直、一番って言っていいほど思っていなかったことなので、とても驚きましたし.”
“When I first heard that I’d be teaming up with and facing someone in their debut match, I honestly never thought I could say I was the first, so it was a total surprise. I felt a bit anxious about it, too. But as a pro wrestler, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime valuable opportunity. So I will show that TJPW’s present and also its future are both bright.”
Anri: “I’m Anri, and I’ve been given the opportunity to make my debut at Ittenyon Korakuen. I get to do my debut match with Uta-san. We always train together, and it’s really reassuring to have her on my side, so I’m really looking forward to it. From here on out, I’m going to work hard and keep improving as a pro wrestler so that I can become a wrestler who is deserving of everyone’s support, so I look forward to working with you.”
Konatsu: "Yes, I’m Ren Konatsu. This will actually be my first Ittenyon myself. My first Ittenyon previously was one that I watched as part of the audience, but getting to experience Ittenyon as a participant this time makes me really happy, and I’m looking forward to it. What makes this Ittenyon match so exciting from my standpoint is that it’s the debut match for my first two juniors. It’s truly an honor, though it does come with a bit of pressure as well. Since I don’t have any genmates, I want to do my best to liven up TJPW along with these two juniors and the younger generation.”
This was a bit tricky: “そして今月でデビュー半年を迎えたんですけど、2人とは7カ月くらいですね。半年くらいのキャリアの差しかないんですけど。今まで半年の中で先輩から教えていただいたことだったりとか、積み重ねてきた経験値を先輩らしいことはできるかわからないんですけど、2人がデビュー戦を終わった後に楽しかったって思ってもらえるように一生懸命サポートしていきたいなって思ってます.”
“And this month it will be six months since my debut, so when I’m with them it’ll only be seven months. There’s only about half a year’s difference between our careers. I don’t know if I can take everything I’ve learned from my senpais over these six months and use all of the experience I’ve accumulated to be a worthy senpai, but I want to do my absolute best to support them so that after their debut match, they’ll be able to look back on it and think it was fun."
Shion: "I’m Shion, and I’ve been given the opportunity to make my debut at Korakuen Hall on January 4.”
Struggled a bit with translating the 憧れ in this: “まずは1月4日に憧れの後楽園ホールでデビューさせていただけることを光栄に思います.”
“First of all, it’s a huge honor to be able to make my debut at the revered Korakuen Hall on January 4. I’m incredibly nervous, but since I’ll be teaming up with Konatsu-san, who has been helping with my training since the very beginning, her presence is very reassuring and gives me peace of mind. I’m truly grateful for her. And our opponents are Uta-san, a senpai I greatly respect, and Anri-san. I’m so happy that we get to wrestle together right from my debut. I’m going to train hard so that for my crucial, once-in-a-lifetime debut match, I’ll be able to have a match that leaves a strong impression. I’m looking forward to working with you all."
Shirai: “First, a question for Shion and Anri. Please tell us your impressions of the senpais you’ll each be teaming with.”
The perennial onomatopoeia question… I had a bit of trouble figuring out the best way to translate these, especially ギラギラ in this sense: “汐珠さんはふわふわしていてかわいいんですけど、試合になった瞬間になんだろ、ギラギラしていてすごいそのギャップがかっこいいと思ってます.”
Anri: “Uta-san is fluffy and cute, but the moment the match starts, she becomes sharp and dazzling, and I think that change in her is super cool.”
Shion: “Konatsu-san has been helping me train since the very beginning, and her teaching is so thorough. She always shows such an aspirational cool side during her matches, so I really respect her, and I love her.”
Shirai: “Next, again for Shion and Anri, as you prepare for your debut match, is they’re anything you’re focusing on in your training?”
Anri: “For my debut match, I want to be able to show my own style, so I’m working on expanding my repertoire. I’m training hard to perfect the things that I’m learning now.”
Shion: “I want my debut match to leave a strong impression of who I am as a wrestler, so I’m concentrating on every part of my training, and I’m going to do my best so that I’ll be able to put on a proper, satisfying match.”
Shirai: “Next is for Uta Takami. Among the four of you, you’re the most senior. As a senpai, please give a word of advice to each of your three juniors.”
This was a bit tricky: “先輩として。まずシオンちゃん。シオンちゃんは本当にいつもまじめで、ひたむきに取り組む姿を見ていたので、なんかシオンちゃんのデビューが決まったことが汐珠もとっても嬉しいです.”
Uta: "Speaking as a senpai… I’ll start with Shion-chan. I’ve seen how Shion-chan always really throws herself into the fray earnestly and wholeheartedly, so I, too, am delighted that she’s set to debut. But we’ll be opponents in her debut match, so I’m gonna go all out to win. Let’s fight with everything we’ve got. And my advice as a senpai is: people always say that injuries come along with being a pro wrestler.”
I had a bit of trouble deciding on the best way to translate “日々、日頃からお世話になっている神田明神さん” (as you’ll see by the fact that I translate it slightly differently each time the phrasing recurs…): “ケガが一番ダメだし、ケガが一番気をつけたいところなので、日々、日頃からお世話になっている神田明神さんで御守りをいただいてきました.” I’m also not sure what the best English term for “御守り” is? I went with “charm” but not particularly confidently…
“Injuries are the absolute worst, and that’s the thing you need to be the most careful about, so I went to Kanda Myojin Shrine, which I go to daily, which always takes care of me, and I received this charm. It’s for Shion-chan. Here you go." (she gives Shion the charm) “And for Anri-chan. I always think that Anri-chan is such an elusive, mysterious girl when I watch her. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of pro wrestler she becomes. And honestly, giving advice is difficult, but injuries are just part of being a pro wrestler, and injuries are just the absolute worst, right?! I’m sure you all know that well. So, I went to Kanda Myojin Shrine, which always does so much for me on a daily basis, and I got a charm for Anri-chan, too. Here you go.” (she hands her the charm) "And finally, Konatsu-chan.”
This was a bit tricky to translate: “小夏ちゃんは日々、いつもメキメキメキメキって成長してるの汐珠もめっちゃくちゃ知ってるし.”
“I’m super aware of how much Konatsu-chan is always, constantly growing by leaps and bounds every single day. Seeing that always makes me think that I don’t want to lose to her. Also, she does all kinds of twirling moves that I can’t pull off.”
Struggled a lot with this: “一番足に来やすいのかなとか思うので.”
“I worry that can’t be easy on her legs. So as her senpai, my advice is: injuries are the absolute worst! So that’s why I got her a charm from Kanda Myojin Shrine, which I always go to for help! Here you go." (she hands Konatsu the charm) “That’s all.”
Shirai: “Ren Konatsu, you made your debut six months ago. Thinking back to your own debut match, please share some advice for your juniors.”
Konatsu: "It was exactly six months ago. I got to make my debut in a singles match against Suzume-san.”
This chunk of her answer was a bit tricky: “地方っていうのもあってか、ものすごい時間がなかったんですよ。時間がなくて緊張する暇もなくデビュー戦だったんです。なんですけど、今思い返してみたら、きっとあの時緊張してたなって思って。なんで緊張してないって思ったんだろうって言うと、もうなんか何も感じないモードに入ってたんですね。試合のことを考えて、なんだろうな、自分が緊張してるって思うと緊張しちゃうタイプなんで。試合のことを何も考えてなかったので。どうですか？ 試合のことを考えないとかどうですか？”
“Maybe it was because it was a regional show, but we had extremely little time. So there wasn’t even any time for me to get stressed, and I just did my debut match. But looking back at it now, I’m sure I had to have been nervous then. Why did I think I wasn’t nervous? I suppose it was because I entered a mode where I wasn’t feeling anything at all. When I think about having a match, it’s like, I’m the kind of person who gets nervous if I think about being nervous. So I wasn’t thinking about the match at all. How about that? How about not thinking about the match? Is that advice? I’ll give some proper advice. When your entrance music plays and you step into the ring, there’s no running away. You have to do the match, so all you can do is do the match! Alright, let’s do our best."
Had a bit of trouble figuring out the best translation for the wording of this question: “アンリ、シオンに、プロレス界で目標にしてる選手は？”
――Anri and Shion, who are the wrestlers you look up to in the pro wrestling world?
This was also a bit tricky to put into English: “私は東京女子に入るきっかけというか、憧れている方が2人いらっしゃって。中島翔子さんと渡辺未詩さんです.”
Shion: “The reason I joined TJPW, or rather the people I admire, there are two of them. Shoko Nakajima-san and Miu Watanabe-san.”
Anri: “The people I admire are the two members of Ober Eats and Miu Watanabe-san.”
――Why?
This was tricky: “東京女子プロレスを初めて見に行った試合で、どストライクというか、どタイプみたいな感じだったからです.”
Shion: “When I first went to see Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, their matches were exactly what I’m about, like my ideal style.”
Anri: “Watching their matches, I really admire their star quality and the way they shine.”
――Anri, Shion, what kind of match do you want your debut match to be, and what result are you hoping for?
Shion: “What I want the most in my debut match is for the match to leave a strong impression. And I don’t want it to be that I lost just because it’s my debut match. I want to face Anri-san and my senpai Uta-san head-on and fight with everything I’ve got, then end the match by getting a win.”
Anri: “I don’t want to lose, either. I want to do my best to improve my teamwork with Uta-san, and put on a good match that leaves a lasting impression.”
Alright, I’m skipping the tag title match portion for now because it’s the longest…
So next up is the final port of the presser, which is for the International Princess Championship. This one was a really fun surprise! You can definitely see the benefit of doing this announcement as a live press conference, too, because the audience definitely reacted to this one.
Arisu’s next opponent will be Mirai!
I’m super pumped for this match because I wanted Mirai to win this belt back when she first tried for it, haha, and I’m happy to see her come back to TJPW for a match. I really hope she beats Arisu here and then comes back to wrestle more!! I don’t think I’ve actually seen Mirai wrestle since she has left… She joined TJPW just a few months before I started watching, and she left just a few months before I started translating. So it really has been quite some time. My friends really love her wrestling style now, so I’m looking forward to seeing how she has developed.
Here’s the presser:
MIRAI: "Good evening, everyone.”
This was a bit tricky: “みちのくプロレス所属、みちのく魂の申し子、MIRAIです.”
“I’m MIRAI, a member of Michinoku Pro Wrestling, and a product of the Michinoku spirit. When this match was announced, I myself was absolutely stunned. Today, December 3, is my birthday, and I just turned 26.”
This was tricky: “本日、12月3日が誕生日で26歳になったんですけど、本当に誕生日プレゼントを用意してくれたのかなぐらい、このカードがすごく嬉しくて.”
“I’m so thrilled about this match, it really feels like someone prepared it as a birthday present for me. Not only am I getting the opportunity to challenge for this belt, but as a member of Michinoku Pro Wrestling, I’m so happy that I get to fight Arisu, who’s also from Tohoku. Back when I was a member of Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, I was very young and immature, just 20 or so.”
This was a bit tricky: “でもそこから飛び立って、飛び出していろんなところで経験を積んで、こうして26歳になって、ありがたいことにこのリングに上がる機会をいただきました。今の自分だからこそ与えられる刺激があると思うので、自分はそれをしっかり与えたいですし、今のMIRAIを皆さんに伝えたいなと思います.”
“But I took off from there, and went out into the world and gained experience in a lot of different places, and now, at 26, I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to step into this ring. I believe that my current self will be able to bring a unique excitement, so I want to properly provide that, and I’m going to show everyone who MIRAI is now. And I am absolutely going to seize this chance and get my hands on that belt and wrap it around my waist."
Arisu: "Long time no see.”
Did not know quite what to do with this: “これ聞いたときは全内臓が出ちゃったんじゃないかってぐらいビックリしました.”
“When I heard about this, I was so shocked I thought all my guts were gonna spill out. Oh, happy birthday." (laughs) "This will be my first time taking on a challenge from a senpai while holding this belt.”
This was a tricky sentence: “チャンピオンではあるけど、対戦相手だったり、今この状況も全部挑戦だという気持ちが強くて、ずっと挑戦するチャンピオンでいたから、今こうして対戦相手がMIRAIさんというのは一番いい対戦相手だなと思ってます.”
“Even though I’m the champion, I’ve always strongly felt that my opponents and such, this current situation as well as all of the challenges I’ve taken on—I’m always challenging as the champion. So having MIRAI-san as my opponent now feels like the best possible opponent. I want to take this belt to so many more places. I want to travel to a lot of different places. I want to go to space.”
This was a bit tricky: “全世界、47県…あ、これ何？ 全宇宙？ まあ全宇宙ということで飛びだっていきたいし、それに3月に両国国技館もあるんですよ.”
“The whole world, all 47 prefectures… oh, what’s this? The whole universe? Well, I want to fly through the whole universe, and plus there’s Ryogoku Kokugikan in March. I want to stand in that ring as the champion—or rather, I WILL stand there. I’m going to defend my belt with that mindset."
Shirai: “Arisu Endo, which aspect of this challenger, who is someone you haven’t faced in a long time, are you most wary of?”
Arisu: "Huh? Everything! Literally everything.”
This was a bit tricky: “私がデビューしたて以来だし、そこからMIRAIさんはいろんなところにいって、いろんな人と試合をしているわけじゃないですか。そりゃ警戒するよね。それ以来、知らないんですもん、MIRAIさんを.”
“We haven’t fought since I’d just debuted, and since then, MIRAI-san has been traveling all over the place, fighting all sorts of people, hasn’t she? I’m super wary. I don’t know anything about her since then. So I plan to be vigilant with every fiber of my being."
Shirai: “Do you have any special preparation planned for this match?”
Arisu: “None! I just want to be myself and face her with everything I’m capable of now, and defend my belt.”
Shirai: “MIRAI, you’ve challenged for this belt before when Yuki Kamifuku was holding it. What is the value of this title to you?”
MIRAI: “I’ve always thought of it as a belt with real, meaningful weight. And I felt that even when I lost to Kamifuku-san, and when I lost the tournament to determine the 5th champion at TDC Hall. Back then, I just couldn’t win the belt, even though I challenged for it several times. So this time in particular, I am absolutely going to seize my opportunity.”
Shirai: “If you win, you’ll get to wear the belt, but what do you have your gaze set on beyond that?”
MIRAI: “It’s the International belt, so of course I have the overseas aspect in mind. But there are people within Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling that I want to fight with this belt on the line, so if I win it, I want to make that happen.”
――MIRAI, when you were with TJPW, what was your impression of Endo?
MIRAI: “We were both young. We were full of youthful energy.” (laughs) “I thought Arisu had incredible athleticism, and I thought she’d just keep climbing higher and higher and higher.”
Struggled a bit with the wording of this question: “改めて今回対戦するにあたって感慨は？”
――Fighting each other again now, do you have any feelings?
MIRAI: “I want to face her with everything my current self is capable of, and I know that Arisu is going to do the same. I gained experience after leaving (TJPW), whereas Arisu has steadily gained experience right here, and I want us to face each other on January 4 with everything we’ve each built up.”
Struggled a bit with this question, but felt better when I watched the video and saw that Arisu also struggled: “お二人に伺います。ここだけは負けない部分と、東北対決なのでうちの県は相手の県にここだけは負けないという部分は？”
――I’d like to ask both of you. What’s something you absolutely won’t be bested in? And since this is a Tohoku showdown, in what way will your prefecture absolutely not lose to your opponent’s prefecture?
Her answer was also a bit confusing, though I think I got it better while watching the video: “メッチャ、カラフルなところですかね。自分色があるってことですかね。そうだと思ってます。福島と岩手の大きさってどんくらいですか？（ファンから「大きい」の声）デカい？ 勝ちました！”
Arisu: “I suppose it’s the fact that I’m super colorful. I have my own colors. I think that’s it. And the other part?” (she gets the question repeated) “How big are Fukushima and Iwate?” (fans shout “big”) “Huge? We won!”
MIRAI: “No, Iwate is bigger!”
Arisu: “Fukushima is bigger! We win!”
MIRAI: “Iwate is definitely bigger!”
Arisu: “…Are you lying? Horrible! I think we’re bigger!”
MIRAI: “Iwate is bigger.”
Arisu: “Fukushima is bigger!”
(I looked it up, and Iwate is bigger, landmass-wise, but Fukushima has a bigger population.)
This was a bit tricky to translate: “負けないところはデカさです。岩手のほうがデカいです。有栖に負けないところ？ え～…たぶん有栖よりはアホじゃないと思います.”
MIRAI: “Where we won’t lose is sheer size. Iwate is bigger. And what Arisu won’t best me in? Hmm… I think I’m probably not as much of an idiot as Arisu. That’s all.”
Shirai: “Finally, please each share a comment expressing your determination to the fans once again.”
MIRAI: “I’m honored to get to make an appearance as MIRAI. For those of you who are meeting me for the first time, and those long-time fans who know me as ‘Mirai Maiumi’, I know you all have various thoughts upon hearing about this match, but on January 4, I will show you who I am now as MIRAI. If you watch the match, I am sure it will come across to you. So whether you are here right now or are watching on YouTube, I really hope you come see the match at the venue.”
Arisu: “First of all, I’m so happy to be ushering in the new year together with this belt and with all of you. I want to keep walking the rainbow road with you all, so let’s meet again at a packed Korakuen Hall!”
Didn’t really know what to do with the “レインボーロード” part because my main association with that word is the Mario Kart map… I guess she’s probably talking about it as being her unique road of defenses, but I dunno. It’s probably not a big deal in any case, even if it’s maybe a more strange thing to say in English than in Japanese.
And that’s it for now. I’m working on the middle portion of the presser and should hopefully have that finished by tomorrow.
