Finished the translation for the September 3 show! I’m trying to get at least 1k characters translated a day so that I’ll hopefully get caught up in time for Wrestle Princess.
The first match with comments was Juria vs Mizuki, which was their first match they’ve ever had together! (It went about how you’d expect).
Mizuki: “That was fun. This was my first time facing Juria-chan in the ring, and I was wondering what she’d be like. It was really fun. I think she has something that no one else has. I’m excited for some point in the future where I won’t be able to say ‘that was fun’.”
I wasn’t quite sure about her last sentence there: “ここから先、楽しかったですって言ってられなくなるのかなとワクワクしました.”
Juria: “I’d never faced Mizuki-san before.”
These sentences were a bit tricky: “デビュー前に鍛えていただくみたいなYouTube企画でボコボコにされた記憶はあったので心してかかろうと思ったんですけど。試合でも笑顔と裏腹にボコボコにやられてしまって、やっぱりめちゃくちゃ強かったです.”
“I have a memory of training with her or something in a YouTube project and getting absolutely pummeled, so I thought I’d approach this with caution. In the match, despite her cheery expression, she gave me a vicious beating, and she was still too strong.”
(Did you learn anything by fighting the current champion?)
“A whole lot.”
I wasn’t totally sure about this: “試合運びとかも、腰攻めをしたりとか。すごい考えて試合してるなってところがあって、お客さんにも伝わるようなプロレスをしていて.”
“Match pacing, targeting the back and so on. It occurred to me that she really puts a lot of thought into it as she wrestles, and she does a style of professional wrestling that conveys that to the audience as well. I felt that I still have quite a ways to go, so I want to follow her example there.”
The main event was a fun preview for the upcoming tag match! Nice mix of teams here. It was fun to see Kyoraku Kyomei with Toyo Mates, and Daydream with Raku & Pom. Always happy to see Kyoraku Kyomei get the victory!
I wasn’t quite sure how to translate I’m not sure I’ve seen it before?
Nakajima: “Misao! Spot-on! I think the fact that the tag belts are vacant is a great opportunity for Kyoraku Kyomei. Even though we’re such a strong team, Misao and I have never won the belts, and the fact that the two of us have never won them… it’s ridiculous, isn’t it? We’re definitely winning. Thank you.” (to Toyo Mates) “Oh, sorry. The two of you were strong, too. Very reliable! They look pitiful, so please hand them the mic.”
This next part was a bit tricky, thanks to Kamiyu’s sarcasm, haha.
Kamifuku: “I’ve never once thought it was a disadvantage to team with Mahiro. I’ve never teamed up with her and wondered, ‘why does it have to be Mahiro?’ I’ve always thought that if I was with Mahiro, I can win.”
Mahiro: “…Thank you. That was so sudden, I couldn’t say anything at first, but I’m going to do my best next week, too.” (to Kamiyu, who is making a subtle gesture) “Huh? We’ll do our best, right? We’re going to do our best, so… Let’s do this!”
Nakajima: “…Ah, we’ll be waiting for you, then.”
Mahiro: “We’re gonna do it!”
Nakajima: “We’ll do it! Yes, the tag match… it’s not in Tokyo, but we’re gonna be fighting tooth and nail, so please look forward to it. Come support us if you want!” (to Toyo Mates) “Thanks for today. Thank you all for today!”
Nakajima: “Kyoraku Kyomei, we’re right on the mark!”
Misao: “We won! I feel like we were more in sync today than ever before.”
I wasn’t quite sure about this chunk: “そう。やっぱりね、意外と我々引きはがされてるんですよ、最近。なんか久々に組んだ気もするし、意外とそんなに頻繁に組んではないんだけど。でもその1回1回の機会が、すごく私は手ごたえをたしかめる機会になってて.”
Nakajima: “Yeah. After all, we’ve been unexpectedly pulled apart recently. It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve teamed together, and surprisingly we don’t team up that often. But each time we get an opportunity, it gives me a chance to test our reactions. We both surely did our best in singles matches during the summer, but… we both lost. And our last opportunity to challenge for those belts, we made it all the way to the finals, and then we lost. It feels like we’re losing a whole lot. But for me, Kyoraku Kyomei is really important.”
These two lines were a bit tricky: “お互いに命を削り合える。相手に対してもお互いに対しても命を懸けれるっていう、そういうタッグパートナーだと私は思ってるんです.”
“We’re each willing to shorten our lives. Being willing to put our lives on the line whether it concerns our opponents or each other, I think that’s the kind of tag partners that we are. What I want to say is, I don’t want Kyoraku Kyomei to lose anymore.”
Misao: “Me neither.”
Nakajima: “So we’re definitely taking those belts!”
I wasn’t quite sure what the best translation for “驀進していきたい” would be, so I just picked something that seemed like it maybe worked, haha.
Misao: “I don’t want to let another chance slip away, and I want Kyoraku Kyomei to go full steam ahead.”
Nakajima: “Full steam ahead!”
Misao: “Kyoraku Bakushin!”
Nakajima: “Full steam! So keep your eyes peeled!”
Kamifuku: “We won, huh? As a team.”
Kiryu: “We won… I won! I’m so happy.”
Kamifuku: “Are they calling this a tournament? It’s not, but it’s in the same family, right?”
Kiryu: “If you reach the top, you earn the right to challenge.”
Kamifuku: “Just about a year ago today… wasn’t it a year ago? No? Tomorrow? In Nagoya a year ago, we teamed up and challenged for the tag titles.” (to Kiryu) “You called it your personal best bout.”
Kiryu: “Did I? I don’t remember…”
It definitely feels like a tournament to me because these shows have produced about as much comments as tournament shows tend to have, so the translation workload is comparable…
Kamifuku: “We challenged like that, and then for about a year, I never said that I wanted to team up with anyone other than Mahiro-chan, or that I can win by tagging with people other than Mahiro-chan, or ‘how nice it is to have a partner like this.’ When I teamed up with someone who wasn’t Mahiro, I didn’t think, ‘this gorgeous person is so wonderful’. Truly, seriously, not even once. Without wavering even once, I’ve been thinking for the past year that Mahiro is the best, so I seriously think this is a great chance. I’m looking forward to it. How about you?”
Kiryu: “Why do you keep averting your eyes?”
Kamifuku: “What do you mean?”
The transcript had this for Mahiro’s next line: “でも、もしかしたら違う人がいいとか思われるかもしんないけどさ。いや今回は東洋盟友で、頑張らしてください!” but I think that “頑張らしてください” might be a transcription error? I had a hard time hearing what she actually said, but “頑張らせてください” as Kamiyu says in the next line makes a bit more sense…
Kiryu: “Well, maybe you think someone else would be better, but—No! Right now we’re Toyo Mates, so please let me do my best!”
Kamifuku: “You’re set in your ways, so I can’t believe you every time. Please let me do my best. The next time will be something. I’m fed up with that, you see? It’s like you’re a loser guy I don’t want to break up with.”
Kiryu: “It’s difficult, but…”
I had a bit of trouble with that last line, but I think 剥奪 is the word she used?
Kamifuku: “But this time, Mahiro isn’t putting in a serious effort. If I think you haven’t changed, we’re breaking up for real. I’ll strip your status as a Toyo University graduate. You’ll have to redo high school, starting from third year.”
This was a bit tricky: “それくらいの勢いだからね.”
“That’s how much of a push I’m giving you. Seriously, don’t think I’ll be at your side forever. Make sure you close properly and neatly, and go home after giving a comment that’ll make everyone feel glad that they watched the video. See you later.”
Kiryu: “We’re absolutely going to win. We’re going to win and challenge for the belts! See you!”
I wasn’t sure what to do with Kamiyu’s response here: “そういうとこなんだよな~”
Kamifuku: (while leaving) “That’s how it is, isn’t it?”
(Is Kamiyu the most difficult person on the roster to translate for? I feel like maybe yes? )
Tatsumi: “Hey, isn’t there something a little off right from the get-go? Daydream was the closest to having a title match, right?”
Miu: “Yeah.”
Tatsumi: “It was already set.”
Miu: “The title match was set for June.”
I think I got this part, but just double-checking my wrestling terminology, haha: “でも流れてしまって。なんでシードじゃないんですか? なんで平等なんですか?”
Tatsumi: “But it slipped away from us. Why didn’t we get a bye? Why does everyone get an equal chance? Isn’t that odd?”
Miu: “Yes, we in Daydream wanted to get the belts and wait for Yuka-san, for MagiRabbi.”
Tatsumi: “Yes. So why? I keep wanting to say that.”
I wasn’t sure about Miu’s first sentence here, or fully confident on my translation of the last verb, haha: “だからこの、そもそものカクカクには不満があるし。勝つしかないですね、でも。勝つか甲田さんをボコるか.”
Miu: “So we’re not satisfied with this, with all of this right from the start. We have no choice but to win, huh? Either we win, or we beat the hell out of Koda-san.”
Tatsumi: “…We’re going to beat him up?”
Miu: “This is what Rika-san has been saying all along, really.”
Tatsumi: “Let’s go beat him up!”
Raku: (pushing Pom on a dolly) “Today, I feel like RakuPom had good chemistry.”
Pom: “I feel it! We lost, but I feel like the Pom & Raku tag team is in good shape.”
Raku: “I wonder what else we need?”
Pom: “What else…?”
Raku: “Power?”
Pom: “…Power? Then, what should we do? What do we do to get power?”
Raku: “Let’s go get yakiniku.”
Pom: “Let’s do it! See you later!”
Raku: “We’ll do our best.”
Arisu also got comments:
Endo: “We’re in the process of building up power right now, so I want to release all of that power and take those matching belts for the two of us.”
(The documentary is scheduled to broadcast)
I wasn’t quite sure about these lines: “最高の流れですよ。これはもう、でいじーもんきーが取るってことですね、ベルトを.”
“This is the best course of events. This means it’s already been decided that Daisy Monkey will be taking those belts.”
And finally, Hikari also had comments:
Hikari: "The tournament qualifier is in the next show in Hiroshima, but today my tag partner is absent due to a stage performance. But I think the two of us are both aiming for the same place. Nao-san is working hard on her own right now, and I also worked hard on my own and won. I’m not anxious at all. Today I tried my best and got the win, so if Nao-san joins me, we’ll become even stronger, and with the two of us, we’ll surely be able to win those belts.”
And that’s it for that one! I am now only four shows behind! Nagoya is like Korakuen length, comments-wise, though, so that one will take some work . I always forget that those shows are basically minor big shows, card-wise…
