A bonus post/translation!
Firstly, my TJPW translation account’s first debut anniversary was on August 2, so I wrote a sappy thread about that, and started a fundraiser for the Marsha P. Johnson Institute if people want to show their thanks for my labor. I found out through my blog’s stats that it has apparently had 2,315 unique visitors since I started it, so I set $2315 as the fundraiser goal with the expectation of basically never making it, haha, though we’re off to a decent start!
Secondly, the 666 show was a lot of fun, the Ram/Raku match especially! I saw that there were post-match comments, but the video isn’t available anywhere. I asked Mr. Haku about it, and he said if the video does go up, it’ll probably be on his youtube channel.
But I really wanted to make sure that they got translated, so I ended up just going for it. I used the Battle News recap instead of shupro’s for the transcript source because Mr. Haku confirmed that it was more complete/accurate (another friend of mine had warned me that Battle News had a tendency to embellish in some cases, so I was a bit apprehensive, but it seems like here at least, they did alright).
I let this show jump ahead in the translation queue because I thought it would be nice to try to finish it while there was still time for people to purchase the PPV.
Since it’s so recent, though, I’ll put this translation under a cut in case people don’t want to have the match spoiled. I’ll just go ahead and include the full Japanese transcript, since this one’s available for free, and there’s no video anyway. I had some issues trying to pin down Ram’s tone, since I’m not super used to translating for her, haha.
Ram Kaichow: “Raku-chan, thank you for joining us today. I’m like super happy. The audience was amazing, and I’m full of emotion. Getting to stand on such a big stage with my wife, with Raku like this, the music was also, it was wedding-ish, wasn’t it?”
Raku: “Yes.”
Ram Kaichow: “Yes, we saw some beautiful scenery on our date today, huh?”
Raku: “Yes, we did. My heart was pounding a bit.”
Ram Kaichow: “I want people to see it. The kiss mark.”
Raku: “It’s my first…”
Ram Kaichow: “Your first what? Your first kiss?”
Raku: “Eep.”
(Here’s the キスマーク)
I wasn’t sure how exactly to translate Raku’s response there. Really wish we had the video …
For this next part, I had to look up “ごっちゃんです”, and it seems to be a sumo thing? From what I can tell, she’s sort of saying “thank you” three different ways? I wasn’t entirely sure, though. And of course, that’s a bit hard to translate into English… I also had to look up “おにゃにゃのこ”, though it seems to just be a slangy way to say “girl”? I wasn’t sure if there was a better way to translate it to capture the nuance.
Ram Kaichow: “Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. We’re such a strange underground organization, so I would like to thank representative Koda for cheerfully sending over such a cute girl! We’re going to have a long relationship from now on, so I look forward to working with you!”
――How was it having a match in Korakuen at your home promotion with this lineup?
Ram Kaichow: “We’ve all faced each other in matches at TJPW before, or I should say that we’ve done the same match before, but it was totally different. I thought maybe it’d be like ‘stay out of our business,’ but it was their first time wrestling for the TJPW audience as well as our peculiar clientele, so it’s good publicity and all that. I’m happy. It’s a win-win for us both.”
Lots I wasn’t sure about in that last paragraph, haha. Also, Ram has faced all of them in TJPW before, but hasn’t done that specific match configuration in TJPW, so I wasn’t confident I was translating that part correctly…
Here’s Pom and Hikari:
Noa: “Ugh, it’s a bit, well, it was my first time wrestling at another promotion, and I thought I had this one in the bag already, and I was going to get the win and then get popular, but in the end, they were strong. I felt their bond of love.”
Harajuku: “The strength of their vow.”
Noa: “The strength of their vow, huh?”
Harajuku: “How was it?”
Noa: “I’ve always liked 666. I’ve been watching them, and I never imagined that I’d be able to step into the 666 ring. I want to tell my old self back when I was making my debut that ‘you’re going to be fighting Ram Kaichow in Ram Kaichow’s ring’. I think we’ve spread the word of TJPW, don’t you think?”
The tricky thing in this next chunk was “リア充爆発させる”, which I had to look up. I’m still not confident I totally understand it? From what I read, it seems to be a reaction out of jealousy of someone else’s happiness/fulfillment, like, “I’m going to make this perfectly satisfied person blow up”. It’s a bit of a pain to translate, haha .
Harajuku: “Have we? Well, I’ve known Ram Kaichow since before I started wrestling. We’re acquaintances. I never thought we’d meet again in the ring like this, so I’m mega happy, and I want to fight again another time. Next time I’m definitely going to ruin their happiness!”
Noa: “She doesn’t like people who’ve found fulfillment in life.” (laughs)
Harajuku: “So I’m going to blow it up.”
Noa: “Wait, please!”
――What is your impression of Ram Kaichow fighting in Korakuen?
Noa: “I’ve fought her in the TJPW ring before, but I thought the power of her home company was pretty amazing in the end.”
Harajuku: “I reckon it was!”
Noa: “It’s fun to fight in TJPW, but it’s also like incredibly thrilling and fun to fight somewhere away from home, too. She’s pretty small, but Ram Kaichow’s power is explosive, so I was like, ‘oh no, oh no, I can’t lose, I can’t lose!’”
I’m honestly considering writing an essay for my blog about the whole Ram/Raku storyline, because it’s the kind of thing that I feel like should be documented somewhere… I certainly never expected all of this would lead to a full-blown lesbian marriage storyline in Japanese pro wrestling, of all places. And one that features an idol, too, haha!
But, well, I’m a bit behind on my study log, wrestling journal, and basically everything, so that’ll probably have to wait a bit .
