Out of curiosity, what editing software did you use for this? The hat version made me think there were other roach animations out there, until you said you edited it haha!

I just drew it in GIMP frame by frame :blush:. Both the book and the hat hehe. So no special software or anything.

  • WaniKani reviews in the morning and in the evening - today, I unlocked all kanjis and got the radicals of level 8 to Guru
  • Watched, well more like listened to 2 EPs of Bungo Stray Dogs. I encountered these known vocabs from the two episodes. There were some more but more or less the personal pronouns, kana vocabs like pointer nouns.

For this week, I want to push myself to do readings so I placed a tall order to finish Week #4 of CCS ABBC this week. Hopefully this would be doable!

Today, we have three versions of the cockroach which has evolved elegantly in one day.

Today is probably the busiest I have been at work. Went home later than expected. The next few days are also like that. :sob:

  • Only managed to study 10 new vocabs. I checked out the next 10 but my eyes are going to close already.

  • Listened to some Japanese songs (Japanese covers of English songs)
  • No reading for today either

Oct. 23, '24:

Today is still purely WK lessons and reviews. Couldn’t squeeze in reading or listening because I was on a meeting the whole day (so mentally exhausting!). If I were able to do the radicals/kanjis on the first day, today would have been the level up day. Tomorrow is the official level up day and it’s still within the 7-day level up so I think it’s still a full speed.

Oct. 24, '24:

There’s a severe tropical storm passing through our country right now and it just did its landfall today. Now I can’t even get out of my apartment because the streets are flooded already. :melting_face:

  • Today, I leveled up in the morning but I didn’t realize it until this evening because I was at the client’s place all day. While there’s a raging thunderstorm.
  • Bunpro reviews - only a few and I really should up the new bunpro lessons
  • No Cure Dolly, no listening, no reading :sob: I just want the weekend to come now
  • Only managed to do the radicals, and there were 20 of them!

Oct. 25, '24:

Not much done by today. I caught up on sleep after days of staying up late due to work since Monday. Then I caught a cold after braving a client visit during the landfall of the storm. Sometimes I don’t feel like our company values their employees’ safety. We still had to meed the client despite the inclement weather.

  • WaniKani reviews in the morning and evening - although I made sure to study again the vocabs that I forgot. This review, I slipped a bit on the reading of 数学(すうがく) and instead typed it as すいがく. Water Academy? :laughing:

Oct. 26, '24:

Today I was able to tackle the first batch of unlocked kanjis for Level 9 with considerable accuracy. The past few days really did a number on my schedule, but I hope I recover it on the next few days, considering there’s a looooong weekend coming. More time for Japanese!

  • Did a total of 34 lessons today so I could catch up on the days that I slipped

Oct. 27, '24:

  • Re-read Week 3 as a whole and found recently learned words like

Also encountered 怪獣 which I remembered from Kaiju No. 8 anime. It was like an Aha! moment lol. Speaking of, I haven’t been updated with it.

  • Managed to read 4 pages of Week 4 and I noticed that the 封印 vocab has come up around 3x so maybe it’s a sign to learn this now.

I’m going to take it easy for this week because I have a lot of things going on at work. Best case is to do some lessons and reviews in the morning and evening, and listening/reading Japanese material. Worst case, probably just WK reviews (it’s not really the worst, but it could be better).

I’m also starting to get reviews for items that will go up to master and enlighten. A few of those items I have messed up, causing them to go back to a lower tier. So I have to divide my lessons in 2 batches so I can take my time and really drill it in my head; 10 vocab items in the morning, and 10 in the evening.

For now, I’m beat.

In another news, I just realized that it’s been a month since I started this study log. I’ve realized since then that getting myself to read native material takes a bit of effort for me. Probably because I still have a lot of kanji/vocab to know yet and I’m quite slow at reading at this point. Not to mention the grammar, but bunpro has been quite helpful with that.

Thank you my dears! We are in the city where this Typhoon Kristine’s hit isn’t as bad. The streets flooded overnight but it was all right in the morning. So we are safe, for now. BUT! There’s another approaching typhoon that could potentially trigger a Fujiwara effect, causing Kristine to go back. :cold_sweat:

This week, my schedule was thrown off due to work duties. :upside_down_face: So there will be some adjustments to the projected schedule table as well as on the weekly goals.

I haven’t been doing grammar this week, nor any daily readings. It was quite hard to juggle both work stuff together with readings, with my reading being quite bad at the moment. As a way to compensate, I just watched/listened to Bungo Stray Dogs anime, and I’m planning to add more animes soon. I saw someone in my Natively following list, probably hotdogsuplex had the FMA in their list as well. Considering I’ve watched it multiple times already, it may encourage me to persevere in my studies even more!

There are also some items that need a review to go up to master but I’ve forgotten either the meaning or reading, so I lessened the lessons this week in favor of studying those items again. I also just realized the purpose of Phonetic-Semantic Composition script when I encountered 時 and the kanji 持 which have the same reading: じ. It does make it easier to guess the readings on some items, but I’m not quite comfortable adding something new to my readings. :face_holding_back_tears: I do not have enough braincells to support it yet.

I also missed the 0/0 streak for level 8 because I leveled up while still having unlocked vocabs of that level. Oh well, I’ll just do better next week!

Oct. 28, '24:

Today, I got the opportunity to tackle a huge batch of lessons because the lessons were quite easy - most of them have the same kanji in the vocabs, and some are new kana vocabs by the time I guru’d the radicals. There were also lessons where I already knew the Japanese vocab for it. Ex. 星(ほし) for star, or 海(うみ) for sea.

The only trouble I’m having is the one with 場 because I can never tell if it’s ば like in 場所(ばしょ) or 工場(こうじょう) in factory, or 立場(たちば) for standpoint. :sob:

Also, I feel like there’s a pattern to distinguish the transitive and intransitive verb. I kinda get it with 下げる(さげる) vs 下がる(さがる) but I have trouble remembering it with 向(む)ける vs 向(む)く.

  • Did a staggering 56 lessons in total today :cold_sweat: I did 20 in the morning, then around 16 in the afternoon, then another 20 before I left the office.
  • Discovered Anime Melon (sorry, the unified word is filtered somehow, and the link to it is filtered, too) in my pursuit of looking for animes with JPN subtitles. I wasn’t that successful in the high seas, and crunchy roll didn’t seem to have them in most titles. Then I came across a post by FluentU and found that treasure trove. The only downside is ofc it’s streaming so you need decent internet connection.
  • Listened to the EP and read along the subtitles of FMA EP 01. I was especially focused on the opening song because it is one of the greatest anime OP song ever.

Today’s client meetings drained me out and I got home so late so I just wanted to turn in for the night after my last review.

I think my level up will be a bit late this week. Based on the review forecast, it will be on Friday, so it won’t be a full speed anymore for this level to the next.

We had our Halloween party today in the office and the highlight of it was the pets that my colleagues brought, not the kids :sweat_smile: It was also a busy day with multiple meetings that extended during the party itself, so I wasn’t able to join the program and all lmao.

Nov. 1 '24:

  • Leveled up to 10 :partying_face: It may have taken 8 days due to work but now I’m in the double-digits level :joy:

  • With that, I did 43 lessons to cover all radicals and kanjis in the morning. I remember waking up at 6:30 knowing I need to level up within the hour, but I went back to sleep and woke up at 9 lol So I had to do all the lessons while trying to keep my eyes open

  • Watched Bungo Stray Dogs EP 12-15, and still watching. That finishes the S1 and starts the S2. Spoiler alert:

I just spent the day catching up on sleep and resetting my body clock. I could try to get back to Cure Dolly once again and pick up CCS reading for week #4 by tomorrow. Kids were going around the neighborhood doing trick or treat :skull:

What’s more interesting to see was the ほんの表紙(表し) which took a couple braincells to decipher since it uses the onyomi readings lol I also recognized 風 and 自身(じしん) which I recognized from 私自身.
