[STATS] Statistics site

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.

The stats site seems a bit confused about my progress:

I’m pretty sure I didn’t take 48 years to do level 56 after teleporting through level 55 instantaneously.

I suspect this is something to do with me (ab)using the reorder script to expedite kanji reviews for a couple of levels before I gave in and stopped my attempt at taking the ā€œfast levels challengeā€.

Looking at my auto-populated google doc scraping the API every midnight, my time on levels in days was more like:

53: 3
54: 4 (not 50)
55: 4 (not 0)
56: 4 (not 17832)
57: 7 (not ~3½)
58: 6 (not 9)

The current version of the site uses Wanikani’s APIv1, which is missing level-up times, so wkstats has to guesstimate. Some people’s data is too complex to be able to guess well, and you get strange results.

You can use the new (but not yet complete) version of the site at https://www.wkstats.com:10001/. It uses Wanikani’s newer APIv2, which has more info and gives better results.

Thanks for the new site @rfindley
At the beginning I checked it on my iPad and the login form isn’t displayed (either on Safari or Firefox). There’s just the header.
But it displays fine on desktop.

So, I assume the ā€œfastestā€ parameter just means doing things as soon as they’re available, both lessons and reviews? And the estimate will get more accurate as I level up more?

Yes, that’s correct.

On the current version of the site, the ā€˜estimate’ is your average, so if you have any unusually long levels, it could make your estimate a little less accurate.

The new (but not 100% finished) version of the site [https://www.wkstats.com:10001/] uses the ā€˜median’ instead of the ā€˜average’, and will generally be more accurate.

Hey @rfindley, how you’re doing?

One question: do you want/recommend me to start linking people to your new version of the website on my WK Guide? Or should I keep the other version for now?

Thanks.

I’d recommend linking to both for now, because a lot of people use the projections, which aren’t on the new version yet. That’s really the only reason the old version is still there.

Got it, thanks

At the risk of being very redundant – awesome stats site, thank you!

Quick question – will the new site located on port 10001 evenutally replace the existing URL, or do I need to get in the habit of using the port detail on the end of the URL?

I wish you a peaceful day!

PS – I’ve passed JLPT N3, and been playing in Anki for 6+ years, so please ignore my newbie level here…

When I’m done, the new site will replace the existing URL, and I will put the existing site on a different port for a brief transition period.

Thanks for your reply, and please let me know if you need a bit of help testing. I don’t mind sharing my API key or credentials with you through a private channel.

Cheers!

Opening up the items by wanikani level seems to crash the chrome app on android for the new version. I haven’t noticed this happen when sorting by JLPT, Joyo or frequency yet however.

Try clicking ā€˜Wait’. The sorting and rendering on the Wanikani grouping could just be taking longer.

(It works on Android on my tablet)

Not sure if it helps, but it works fine for me, so maybe it’s a problem on your side?

I’ve never seen it happen before on other sites. Pressing wait (even multiple times) does not seem to work. It works fine in the firefox app though.

I had a small idea that may or may not be useful. For the items pages, I would be interested to be able to sort the items in the Items category on when I will review them next. Just a small idea.

That’s a good idea. I’ll consider implementing it.
It’s going to be a while before I work on the site again, so if you hear about updates but don’t see your suggestion, please ping me again to remind me.

Hi @rfindley
I found something that may require a revision.

When I go to wkstats, Start displays the date when I first started Wanikani, that is 2015-09-15.

However I recently reset my level to 1. After a period of inactivity I had thousands of reviews and I didn’t mind going back to the beginning. I believe that was 2019-01-03.

Encouragingly, my All burned date shows 2117-05-20, which coincides with Zefram Cochrane’s disappearance from Alpha Centauri.

Is that because my start date is set to the first time I started level 1?
Should it perhaps be set the last time I started level 1?

Looking forward to your thoughts

For now, you can click the level 1 bar chart to exclude it from the calculations.
