So what's your study regimen?

Now that I’m back and trudged through my backlog, I’m ready to resume studying which usually involves:

  • WK reviews and lessons as they come
  • Keeping up with my hobbies, most of which require light to moderate reading at a variety of difficulty levels

…and that’s about it… I want to add in more reading from graded readers and I need to crack open Tobira which I bought just before my unexpected hiatus.

What do you mean by “Minna no Nihongo review books”?
Are there actual review books for Minna no nihongo?
I’ve been only using the textbook and the grammar explanation.

Neat! So do you live in Japan? How do you use Japanese at work? And you’re starting at the beginning with WK? Is that frustrating?

Hi Scareecrow,
They published a supplemental series called 標準問題集, which is their review books for both Lower and Upper Beginner textbooks. It’s arranged in order by chapter and has review questions for both vocab and grammar of that chapter. It’s helped me out when I have to brush up on some grammar I learned ages ago.

Hope this helps!

Hi StellaTerra,
Yep, living in Japan now! Long story short, I lived here from 2006-12, moved back home, then returned last November. I work in hospitality, so I have to use a lot of Japanese at work, and occasionally the dreaded keigo.

You’re right as WK is pretty easy at the moment…but it’s been great review, especially since I didn’t really study for a while. There’s already been a couple words or kanji readings where I was like, “Oh yeah, that’s how you say it!” I wish I could move though it a little quicker though. Waiting for the next review or lesson is tedious.

  • Finish reviews ( usually takes ~ 1 hour per day)

  • Showroom-live.com for listening comprehension (1-2 hours)

  • Dictionary of Japanese Grammar ( basic and intermediate version)

  • Seasonal anime

I read some manga if I don’t have much homework for the day.
