I’ve been wondering, since Kansai-ben seems to be the dialect I’m repeatedly coming across in Japanese – are there commonly held stereotypes about the people in the area? I know IIRC I heard it’s common for comedians to use it, but that’s all I know.
I mean people are all different and it’s not like I’m looking to form baseless judgments, but I ask because I’m wondering when a character is made to be from Kansai, if there is something that an audience of Japanese natives is likely to associate with them, whether the work might be actually using that shorthand to communicate something, or to subvert it.
