Since this word has okurigana (hiragana attached to the kanji) you know that it’s probably going to be the kun’yomi reading. You already know the reading from the kanji!
Uhmmm so I though めいかり? but you know what? It’s not because the reading of taught kanji changed =,=
Would it be possible to add an OPTION to reset state of the kanji if you switch the reading or do any update on it? I know a lot of people probably don’t want it but right now with those changes is kinda schisophrenic =,=
Or add an option on the kanji page to reset progress so I can do it on my own if I deem needed.
I agree, and would also like it to be more obvious when a meaning changes too. Maybe add them back to lessons to review the update but then give the option to restart or keep current learning progress? Especially with kanji that has already been burned.
Maybe they should list Kun’yomi or On’yomi on the Kanji item.
It’s a bit odd that WK requires specifically On or Kun and from the kanji item you can’t tell which reading they want. Especially when they are in the habit of changing this regularly and don’t emphasize this during the lesson.
Great! and how do I check the item page? I only remember this meaning beause it was taught. I can try to search the page view main page or enter wrong answer to see the item page in-line…
this handling is terrible… in this case the pop-up should give the link directly!
Or better yet… just add option to reset updated items with the information that it was change and has to be re-studied…
Yeah if they’re not going to be consistent with sticking to onyomi or kunyomi when teaching solo kanji, it should be made clearer in the lesson and the review which one they want. I would prefer they stick to onyomi for kanji since a lot later on only have onyomi anyway. Then all the kunyomi can be learned through vocab. I understand they’re choosing frequent/useful readings over predictably for the user but the process is more frustrating than it needs to be.
If I understand your question correctly, you can see the item’s details by typing the letter “F” . I’m not sure if the answer you typed is considered wrong or just worthy of the warning message. … curious to know what happens here.
Only works after a wrong answer, not for words on the ‘warning’ list.
You can however just look the word up in a new browser tab. WK has no issues with having multiple tabs open.
I often look up radical meanings because I don’t really care about those. Also A1-3 Kanji, if I didn’t have time to drill them yet, to keep making progress. As with all cheating: you have to be careful not to cheat yourself though.
As @KanjiOzeki mentioned - you can’t use F/E unless you are pass the “type the answer” stage so the only way is too look it up in different tab, which is somewhat inconvenient but then again - you are expected different answer than the one already drilled in your head so it still requires re-learning hence resetting the progress (as an option!) would be very convenient in this case…
I’ve never had this happen before. It seems unnecessarily harsh treatment for an answer that is not actually wrong. SMH… unless it’s about the transitive/intransitive translation.

You’re right it can be confusing when an item’s meaning or reading changes, but we don’t give an easy way to check what’s changed or to review the item again. Having to search or purposely get something wrong just to see the updated page definitely isn’t a great experience
We’ve talked internally about improving how “content updates” are surfaced, and your suggestions —
adding an option to reset or restudy updated items
adding a direct link from the pop-up to the item page
are both excellent ideas. I agree that they’d make it much easier for users to understand changes and decide if they need to review the item again.
I’ll bring this up with the product/content team so we can explore these improvements to future updates. Thanks again for flagging this so clearly, and sorry again for your frustration.
Seems like specifically this change for 明 to have the kun’yomis as the default reading has been controversial. I don’t recall any of the other recent reading or meaning content update changes causing this much consternation among users.
Also, it would be awesome to incorporate content changes as “item history” with what the change was, when it was and the previous mnemonics. It should’t take too much space (storage wise) but would be super helpful.
For the lack of better example, this is from the the XMPP extensions:
you can see “revision history” with simple notes what was changed and why. Having something similar in the particular item would be awesome.
For example 明 page could have at the bottom (possibly collapsed by default?) "Change history) which would list all changes like:
