I am noticing many Kanji changed since the update, but I didn’t get an option to re-learn like I did with the changed radicals.
For example hold is ji instead of mo, thin is sai instead of hoso.
How do I return the changed kanji to my lessons and learn the new reading? The same as I did with the radicals? It’s really confusing since I have been answering some of these for months correctly with a different reading, they pop back out of enlightened and really confuse me.
Unfortunately you can’t. They’re looking into it but for now most of the kanji you should know the on’yomi from vocab, and if you don’t, look it up. I don’t think they switched any requiring onyomi that don’t have associated vocabulary. For example (the ones you brought up) 保持、詳細。 A common one is さ for 左 and ゆう for 右 which are both in 左右。It’s not like they’re asking you for a new answer, just the other reading.

Not all of them changed to on’yomi, though. You’re still going to have kanji that teach the kun’yomi/nanori reading for some reason or another. There was even one instance of an on’yomi reading being changed to a kun’yomi one. Alakazam! Here it is:
Suggestion: Use your reviews to learn the “new” readings. Enter the kanji reading you originally learned, WK is not going to mark it wrong, it will shake and ask for the “new” reading. Have another window open and then go to the kanji and learn the “new” reading.
Ok, I can try that. I keep second guessing myself though, it’s hard to know the difference between things I just get mixed up, which also causes it to shake, and ones that changed.

I don’t think you need to second guess yourself here. Nothing has changed in Japanese itself, after all. I’d claim that recalling a different reading for a kanji by yourself, is not actually any different than recalling a different reading because WK previously encouraged you to do so (as far as your language learning is concerned). In both cases, you get the shake, which prompts you to think about other vocab you have encountered including this kanji, and which reading from them you might need in this case.
I remember the update, and being concerned about the kanji that were switching from most common reading (which is kun’yomi for some) to automatic on’yomi.
… And I have finally had the issue pop up for me in my reviews, for a kanji I would have probably burned: 打 which used to read う… is now vastly different. And since I learned the kanji and vocab the old way, I decided to keep the old mnemonics for the old readings…
However, that is causing an issue: a) う is not a grandfathered “secret” synonym like I believe it was supposed to be, and b) since the reading changed, it makes no sense. XD
@anon20839864 is this just one that was missed? Or did I misunderstand the update (regarding grandfathered items)?
EDIT: It seems that I missed it in the list. Sorry, Kristen. Still thought there were supposed to be secret synonyms for people who learned the alternate readings, though… Hmm… Did I misunderstand?
I believe the only secretly accepted answers are the old radical names, and that’s regardless of your settings. The changes in accepted readings are like any other content update; the old answers are not accepted. The overhaul just happened to have many more of those changes than usual.

It seems that I did misunderstand, then. Well… time to make lots of use of the Self-Study Quiz, then!
You’ll probably find several you do know from vocab. Maybe just study the ones you don’t know afterward are you miss them in reviews.
^ this. Pretty sure its on’yomi is だ from the vocab item 一打、iirc. I had it burned before the change.
Somehow I associate them differently in my mind… like vocab and individual kanji are separate. \_(o.o)_/

I wonder if I burned that vocab… and if so how long ago (it could be years… I’ve been on 16 for a year or more now… and had another very long gap too…)
I try to do almost the opposite and relate the kanji reading/meaning to a word that I know it’s in, either in the kanji lesson if I’m lucky enough to know a word it’s in, or in later reviews when I’ve got some vocab from it to play with. Helps it stick for me.
I did that too, in the beginning - but that only works for some readings and not others? Couldn’t tell you why.
