蜘蛛ですが 第一巻 - 39 pages (75% → 87%)

Really happy with the progress I was able to make today! Hopefully I’ll be done with the book in a couple day’s time. Realistically speaking it’ll probably take another couple days, although finishing it tomorrow before the end of the month would be pretty cool.. I’ll try my best tomorrow and just see how it goes I guess!

I’ve really enjoyed the LN a huge amount and can’t recommend it enough - well, if being reincarnated as a spider in an RPG-style dungeon is your cup of tea of course.. Will a hundred percent be getting the next book in the series later on as part of my next book haul :books: though I suppose I can’t justify buying more until I’ve read a few of the books I have..

イエーイ、おめでとう :tada: The first book you finish is such a wonderful milestone - you should be super proud of yourself :yellow_heart:

ありがとう! It’s such a hard to describe feeling, like the excitement and I can’t wait to start the next volume.

Chapter 3 of volume 3 of Teasing Master Takagi-3… er, Takagi-San.

I happened to read the Japanese instructions on the packaging of my contact lenses:

〈ご注意〉ご使用の前に必ず添付文書をよく読み、取扱い方法を守り正しく使用してください。定期検査は必ず受け、眼科医の指示を正しく使用してください。

I’ve always been wondering what optometrist (my profession) is in Japanese. Seems like 眼科医 (ophthalmologist/eye doctor) do handle contact lens patients :eyes: Seems like optician and optometrist aren’t the same in Japan like they are in Norway. Now, I haven’t been to any eye specialists in Japan so I could be wrong, but I get the impression someone working at a glasses store (optician) over there only do refraction and make glasses for people, whereas they don’t really handle the ocular health part like an optometrist would do. For that I get the impression you have to go to a clinic. Though I could be wrong.

Bonus: I finally learned the word for retinal detachment = 網膜剥離 (moumaku hakuri).

I already knew 緑内障 (glaucoma)、白内障 (cataract)、糖尿病網膜症 (diabetes retinopathy)、加齢黄斑変性 (AMD / age-related macular degeneration). Nice chart in section 7 here.

Congratulations on finishing your first book!! :tada: There’s much more Yotsuba and other series for you to enjoy!!
I’m glad you saw improvement with your stamina too!! I always feel it’s easier to read your second book by the same author, so if you read Yotsuba 2 I bet it will improve even more!

I love Yanda hahaha, I hope you enjoy his character when he arrives

Ahhh!! I hope you enjoy your time!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Thank you!! Yea, I saw there were 16 volumes of Yotsuba. I will be busy for a while.

That’s so reassuring to hear, I can’t wait to see the improvement.

So far I’m getting he is the unreliable type but we will see haha

  • A news report about the arrest of the man behind illegal manga piracy site bato.to (and, like, 60 other sites apparently). Interesting that Chinese police collaborated with Japanese publishers given the current international situation…

  • For Gyakuten, this was just case 1 where they basically guide you through it but man when you get on the run and Cornered kicks in god damn if you can’t stop. I swear I went into a fugue state after gym and just mainlined the entire case. (I did make an error mistaking 被害者 for 首謀者 which would probably get me disbarred irl)
  • I also somehow read all of Nakamura-san 6 over the course of yesterday which was fun. Only two annoying bits, a) they introduced a new character who speaks in a HEAVY inaka accent (そげん and こげん, anyone?)and b) the cover is a complete lie, they don’t go to the beach at all.

Not sure whereto next. Maybe a one or two day break with some manga, then on to case two of GS2.

[よつばと!1] Rereading Yotsubato, this time looking up the grammar and vocab I didn’t get the first time. There was alot of things I’m getting this time around then the first time. Not going to spend too much time, just till tomorrow

Haven’t posted any updates in a while, but I’m doing WK everyday- 15 new lessons and 120 reviews a day. Today I also practiced katakana on Tofugu after a while. While katakana is easier to learn compared to hiragana, it’s definitely harder to master, because hiragana is a lot more common on WK.

・ゼルダの伝説    スカイウォードソード (05:29 ⇒ 07:14)

I knocked down a wasp nest and got stung by a bunch of wasps but also I caught a bunch of wasps, so who really won. (I lost several hearts, so uh, probably not me. Hah.)

Anyway, I’ve made it about two-thirds? of the way through the forest temple and haven’t needed to consult a guide for it yet, so I guess I’m doing well.

I learned that there’s a quest where you help Pipit’s mother by cleaning around the house, and she pays you despite them not exactly having the money to do so, and Pipit finds out, and you apparently are given zero option to side with him or apologize or pay him back or anything. I’ve been rotating an idea for a fic where you do while trying not to yet because I don’t know the details of the quest, I don’t even know when you get it, but I was thinking of making her disabled, since laziness doesn’t really exist the way people try to paint it as, and there’s usually something at its source—ADHD, depression, chronic pain, chronic fatigue… just to name a few. (The posts I saw kinda painted it like she was just being lazy.) But it seems she likely is! If you sit down on one of the chairs inside the house, she says, “あら、リンクちゃん。疲れちゃったの?? わかるわぁ、その気持ち…… おばさんもいつもそうだもの! ゆっくりしていってね。”

I don’t know how the quest is written, but I know the situation definitely isn’t as clear cut as either Rubia or Kikoa being in the right and the other being in the wrong. Yes, she needs help, and yes, they don’t have the money to hire that help. So it feels kind of scummy that you have to side with her without considering Kikoa (your friend and reliable senpai!)’s feelings on the matter and that he does have a point. They’re both right, and you should get to choose—and, ideally, have a third option where you acknowledge that they both have a point.

Also Kikoa would totally feel guilty, wouldn’t he. He (I imagine) joined the academy in part because of the salary; there’s money and status that come with being a knight that would allow him to give his mother a better life. Except it also takes him away from her. He used to be the one helping her with the housework (うちのキコアは学校でがんばってるかしら, implying he also worked hard at home), but between class and training and his duties as a fledgling knight (and his night patrol shifts which apparently aren’t standard and he picked up for the extra money), he can’t physically be there for her the way he wants to. If he weren’t a knight, she wouldn’t have felt the need to hire someone since he’d be there to help her, but also they’d have even less money, and since he is a knight, they will have the money to hire help, just… not yet.

Anyway the fic idea turned into a fake dating one. After the confrontation and apology, Link does still want to help when he’s on Skyloft, but Kikoa finds the whole “Link accepting payment from Rubia and then giving it right back to him” thing exasperating and needlessly convoluted and tries to talk his mother into letting Link help out for free, but she’s stubborn and won’t take no for an answer. Well, Link wonders who she would let help for free, but barring family (of which they have none), it would probably only be the person Kikoa’s dating—which, he’s not currently dating anyone and he’s also not gonna ask someone out for the express purpose of conscripting them into free labor. Link latches onto the idea and suggests they tell her they’re dating. They plan to leave it at that (Link’s my boyfriend so please stop giving him money, and then never bring it up again), but they end up actually having to play the part, like with Link joining them for dinner when he’s on Skyloft and Kikoa’s eating at home, and stuff like that, but they find that it starts bleeding into their daily lives as well as they start falling in love for real.

Bonus points if Kikoa had thought he was straight before all of this and realizes he’s not during one of their dinners and then has to pretend he’s not having a queer crisis in front of his mother whom he’s already come out to as bi lmao

Finished volume 3 and read a bit of 変な家… It’s just the first couple of pages but I’m really liking this book. The idea of solving a mystery by looking at a house floor plan and puzzling out what happened is so interesting!
Also good for learning house related vocabulary lol

Missed a manga reading day there, but mostly bc I was too busy reading my LNs, so I’m not too worried about it.

Yay a new 僕らの食卓 reader! It’s a pretty simple read, but it only has name furigana (and I think only once, or maybe once a chapter?), so that does up the difficulty a little bit. But it’s one of my favorite ongoing series, I highly recommend it!

眼科医

Funny that you post about that because I had this exact talk Thursday morning. I’m trying to get my first pair of glasses made (to diminish the strain especially in the low light evenings / computer settings) and I’ve learned that I have to consult with 3 different entities in France. First the ophthalmologist then the optometrist and finally the optician.

目が悪い。

Looked it up and this looks so cute!! I’m a big fan of cooking/food manga because they are so cozy (plus you learn about so many cool dishes), I’ll definitely read this too

I’m in Hokkaido for a week at the snow. It’s so good being here. Everywhere I look is free bonus vocab reviews :joy: this is why I’m learning the language after all.

I finished Yotsuba today and I had the same feeling as you… this is my first manga ever! Back when I first decided that one day I will learn Japanese, a moment many years ago, it was to be able to read manga in Japanese. Now that I have read one, it seems surreal that I did it. Huge motivation to continue WaniKani and to keep on reading

Reading: よつばと!① :right_arrow: Finished!

よつばと!① 終わった!やった!あと、しろくまカフェbis ①始めました。This is a lot harder and slower for me to read than Yotsuba. While I’m here I’ll have time to read this and Yotsuba ② but when I return home it’ll likely be back to just Yotsuba. It does feel good though to get stuck into something a bit trickier.
