I usually look things up, unless I don’t have easy access to a dictionary (say if I don’t have internet access, or I’m on lunch break at work and only have the company network to use). I’ve watched so many anime and dramas over the years that often I’ll read a word silently and think I don’t know it, and then as soon as I say it out loud, I’ll recognize it, because I remember hearing a character say it in one of the shows I’ve watched.
And sometimes, now that I am doing more reading, the opposite will happen - I’ll pick up on a word in an anime that I just read in a manga a few days before. If I hadn’t looked up how to pronounce that word, I wouldn’t have been able to make that link to the anime dialog.
One other thing, though - most of my reading so far has been manga with furigana for the kanji. I don’t have to look up the reading in the dictionary because it’s already right there in the text. I love furigana…

yes, I always look up the reading. I’m too curious not to. Especially when I’m reading out loud, it’s impossible for me to just skip. Basically what @Jintor said. Natural srs, eventually I remember the reading and don’t have to look it up.

One chapter of ふらいんぐうぃっち 2 plus a little from 人狼サバイバル 1 before bed. 人狼サバイバル 1 is really too difficult for me, but reading and reading and re-reading the same page a few times, I understand most of what’s going on. It will be fun to read it again in a year! ふらいんぐうぃっち on the other hand is just the perfect difficulty level. Plus I love the “vibe” of the manga. I’m not a big manga fan generally, but I’ll make an exception for this manga!

Progressing a bit through 新一星’s collection of short stories.
Progress: 26,36% —> 27,02%
Just a little bit yesterday, but there were some nice, long descriptions of scenery that I managed to follow and grasp intuitively without having to stop, so that felt pretty nice.
I realised that I understood the sentence but would struggle if I had to pause and translate it, which I take as a positive sign since it means I’m understanding the Japanese directly.

I swear the only way I kept my motivation for learning JP is because of fanfics and doujinshis haha (karaoke iko is so fun! I love Wayama’s sense of humour)

three more chapters of 3月のライオン (one was very short). it’s interesting how this arc parallels the last one, i like it. slightly slower going with psycho-pass, makishima’s dialogue is a struggle. also having him read carmilla during the lesbian murder arc is just a tad on the nose but whatever
