📚📚 Read Japanese Every Day Challenge - Summer 2025 🌌 🎋

I so admire all of you who have persevered through the challenge this summer. I was not so disciplined; in early August I realized that every day’s to-do list was too long, and unfortunately Japanese reading was one of the things that had to go. I look forward to having a quieter summer next year (fingers crossed!) and time for a real reading vacation. Congrats to everyone on their reading achievements!

・ 有限と微小のパン THE PERFECT OUTSIDER (88% → 100%) // Time: 2h 30m. Total: 24h 45m

Finally! Finished book and, at last, the series as well. What to say… We’ve been reading this series at the pace of two books per year since 2021. The first book was chosen to be read in Advanced book club (4th book of the club), the rest as an offshoot club. The club is coming to an end after 5 years, huh… Feels weird.

It’s been a super busy period at work, I had an important assignment to hand in for my uni course, and I also spent 10 days travelling, so I’m really surprised by how much I read during this challenge!
Thanks as always to @DIO-Berry for hosting, and to everyone who read and posted in the thread! It’s so much easier to stay motivated when you feel like you are part of something.
As always, I’ll be carrying on with the challenge for the bonus month - but big congrats to everyone who crossed this finish line!

Its hard to capture how long he’s gotten in a photo now - but for a sense of scale, he’s now longer than I am tall!

Gonna keep reading everyday in Sept probably, but won’t log it here. (You can follow all the exciting action on my Natively if you like though)

29/8 12 pages Mina’s Matchbox (finished week 16), 8 pages 日本の歴史 (finished week 5, started next), 29 pages とんがり帽子のアトリエ (read chapter 69), aDoAJG ただ and さも

30/8 18 pages Mina’s Matchbox (read week 17, started next), 16 pages 日本の歴史 (finished week 6), 29 pages とんがり帽子のアトリエ (read chapter 70), aDoAJG そのもの and さぞ(かし)

31/8 33 pages 明日の世界で星は煌めく (finished week 1, read next), 26 pages ふたつのスピカ (finished volume), 12 pages 付き合ってあげてもいいかな, aDoAJG 済む and 単に

Days off have been good for more catching up! I’ve nearly caught up with Mina’s Matchbox, and yesterday made good progress on 明日の世界で星は煌めく, which I’ll keep reading for the next few days.

Ideally I’d like to be up to date with all manga by the weekend as I have a busy run of shifts starting around then. We’ll see.

I planned to read Natsume last night to keep up with the club, but I accidently fell asleep while srsing. Instead, I started Ruri 3 since I realized that I can probably catch up pretty easily to the club which I only noticed yesterday is currently active. I had just assumed I was too late for it before. After I catch up, then I plan to read Natsume’s chapter. If I have time this week, I’ll also work on getting the JoJo book club caught back up. I haven’t found the next volume of 日本の歴史 and ルリドラゴン only goes up to 3, so I’ll finish those soon and then probably use スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり as my flex (non book club/non bedtime) book.

I also continued Stone Ocean as my bedtime book last night. It’s genuinely weird how much harder it is than SBR, but I think it’s all the psuedo-science explanations. I am glazing over ngl, but I’ll read them in depth in like 10 years, so I’m not that troubled anyway.

・6 pages of NO.6 #2, starting ch 2 and leaving off on pg 43

The beginning of the chapter had me confused for a bit. I thought the section was going to be from the POV of someone other than Shion or Nezumi again like in the first book. And what the hell is “a boy who’s smaller than a girl” supposed to mean? Is it not supposed to be a girl in general but his older sister who’s apparently also there? Though we don’t get that until a page later, and she’s referred to as “女の子,” not “少女,” besides.

・ 拝啓見知らぬ旦那様、離婚していただきますII〈上〉(0% → 9%) // Time: 51m. Total: 51m

I’m reading this ridiculous series again. It’s been a while – so long, my brain has suppressed most of the bad parts from the two prior books in the series. It romance :eyes: It had a super silly bet between the main characters in the first books. Then the books ended at a good point as if this wasn’t meant to continue as a series at all (spoiled a lot of the future, did it too, so I promised myself I was done and wouldn’t read on). But now that I’ve forgotten the details, I find myself curious about the series again. Author keeps dishing out more books too.

On a positive note: Yay, romance~ I love me a silly romance.

Read a chapter on Sunday and played a bit more FF1 so I’m fully caught up until week 2. Today was a holiday in the US but I still managed half a chapter.

Finished the last two volumes of the trilogy today. Will start reading the LN sometime this week. If you’re looking for a quick, easy but interesting read, I can recommend this manga series!

Up until now, I have managed to get some reading done every day of this challenge. Meaning, reading at least 1 manga chapter every. In reality, most days I read a novel.
Initially, I joined because I hadn’t read much over the past half year. It feels good to make reading progress, but it still feels more like a must and less like a habit…

In July I completed all my goals, in August I didn’t. I learned that I prefer focusing on 1 novel instead of switching between a few, and only reading manga on days I am completely lacking the energy to focus on a novel (or it’s too late in the evening).

Upcoming month, I hope to finish 2 novels. Last year I could only read like 5 pages a day, now I can do 20 or more even on weekdays (when I feel like it).

Let’s all keep up our good work! Even if it’s only 1 page a day, it’s still a step towards our goals!
