I love the moment of breaking out a fresh volume. Will free-read Vol. 6 over the next week or so and then will go back to each chapter for a closer look; my hope is to finish my three-step readthrough (free-read whole volume, then reread each chapter twice, once without lookups and once with lookups) before the end of the summer holiday.
Edit: Oh wait! I already free-read Vol. 6 for this summer’s readathon; I will plunge into rereading right away.

did vol 11 of berserk and that’s it, promotion over, no more. OTL ah well, just gotta buy the series at some point. i’ve somehow managed to read 11 volumes of berserk through various promotions without having to pay a penny but i don’t think i can really rely on that going forward
Just a tiny read before going to sleep. Have been driving the entire day all by myself. I feel like I’ve grown up a bit. If this was a dating sim, me and my car are buddies now.
I read a level 1 Tadoku book today because it felt more bite-sized, and I didn’t read yesterday. I’ve been feeling a bit unmotivated these past few days, partially because as I’ve been searching for Japanese reading material, I’ve been having a difficult time finding books that suit my taste and that are available since I’m not great at searching for them. I was never a big manga reader, so it’s made me question a bit why I’m doing this, besides my general love of studio ghibli and takarazuka and the fact that Japanese is fun to learn. I’m sure I’m going to keep doing it, especially because I’m scheduled to work with genki 2 in a couple of weeks, but it has put a bit of a damper on the learning momentum I had going.
I’ve just had a look at one of the stories at your recommendation, and the grammar seemed manageable. Thank you I’m a little wary about subscribing to something else, but I’ll probably make my way through the free ones and see how I like it.
I always see you in these reading threads–I’m hoping to join you in one of the book clubs when they choose their next pick
Would love to have you join us! The book clubs on this forum are pretty awesome. And I’m sure you’ll be able to find some reading material that you like, there are definitely learners who aren’t big manga readers.

Had to get up at 3am for my flight this morning but I had some nice downtime for reading later in the day. Wanikani lessons are of course completely on pause for the duration of the trip, but I’m keeping up with reviews too!
Over the past few days, I’ve crocheted this using interlocking crochet—alternately crocheting two pieces of mesh using filet crochet such that they interweave and form one piece. The sleeve is just big enough that a tankoubon paperback fits snugly inside. (Sometimes I’ll bring a book to work to read on break, and this should protect it while it’s in my bag; until now, I’ve just been wrapping it in a bandana.)
(I wasn’t sure I had enough of the green left for the second piece, so I used white instead.)
The creature is a yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta). Contrary to what their common name may make one think, they actually live not in cold water, but near hydrothermal vents! Their “hairs” are for filtration purposes rather than thermal regulation. They’re also technically squat lobsters, though they are more closely related to crabs than to true lobsters.

Added another book to the reading roster, 春風のエトランゼ Vol 2. I got about half way through this back in Dec/Jan but stopped as it got a bit tricky, but I’m feeling ready to get back into it. Starting the volume again from the beginning to remind myself of where I’m at.
On a side note, when you’re reading novels without furigana, do/did you find yourself constantly checking the correct readings for words that you definitely know. It’s like my brain constantly doubts itself and I have to double check. It’s not even funny how many times I’ve re-read and looked up 暗闇 even though I know it’s くらやみ etc. I assume this will go away with time but please tell me I’m not alone in this haha.
